Collector knife received from smoker. Overreacting?

My parents smoke big time an whenever they send me anything I leave it in the garage opened up and airing for a few days to a week or more. Afterwards it seems good as new. Might try that. Granted I live in the desert too so you may have other factors to deal with.

The vile and loathsome stink of cigarette or worse cigar smoke is horrible.
Ive had to let go several items stinking to high heaven after receiving said items off ebay.
Last it was a Molle bag which was supposed to be attached to a ruck.
I sold it to a smoker buddy and told him why I sold it. He didnt care, as his sense of smell is pretty much shot.
Few smokers -or x smokers for that matter- will be able to relate...., as evidenced by this thread.
I go camping a lot and make a lot of wood fires - there is just no comparison.

Nobody wants to have to battle cigarette odor after paying a premium for a knife they plan to resell.
I think it should be disclosed that the knife may stink like an ashtray and possibly require some cleaning.

^This. It is a business transaction we are talking about and the condition of the item was not fully disclosed.

Heh,,, I roll my own and have been for many years. Isn't about being cheap, tho it is. I like the process of rolling when I need one. Almost like a bit of meditation/zen. So the journey is at least as important as the result to me.
Rolling means I smoke a lot less too.

But I still got a chuckle out of this thread. If you buy something 2nd hand, you'd better have some level of tolerance for others. Something like 1/4 of the world smokes. But whatever, I understand tolerance is not part of the mainstream of today. Republicans and Democrats prove out that point equally.

So far as the smell,,, well hotels and car dealers find Fabreeze works pretty well.

No tolerance for loathsome cancer inducing smoke, which continues to stink and cling to objects to boot - imagine that.

Insert giant rolleyes smiley here.

It's a Spyderco, not a Loveless. Its cigarette smoke, not radioactive. Either let it air out, or send it back.

Speaking of inserting, how about you insert......., well, better not go there in General Knife Discussion:D

Well, you certainly aren't afraid to state your mind. So, I'll state mine..... some people make too big a deal about smoking and odors associated with smoking. Your house, your rules. My house, my rules.

Amen. Duder is getting a bit preachy.

And don't forget: EVERY Loveless knife ever made came saturated with cigarette smoke. For free!

This thread has provided some great chuckles. It will air with time, I wouldn't send back an otherwise perfect knife.

I might just be willing to purchase this contaminated knife for 10-cents on the dollar just to get it off your hands. :D

Nope, most often Im not (though Ive held back in this thread:D). I agree with your statement to a certain degree and certainly as you say; your house, your rules. As you are of course able to deceide wheter you want to smoke or not, Im also fortunately allowed to (still) voice my opinion about smoke and whether it bothers me or not (though of course some silly 'flat earthers' would prefer no opinion in that regard was voiced:D. How they can get their panties in a bunch, I wont ever fathom). Whilst there are a dwindling number of smokers, one might still buy a smoke soaked item off ebay, as was the case with some items, that I bought. Maybe one should make it a habit of just asking whether or not an item is from a smoke free home. I dont buy much stuff off ebay these days. At least not as much, as I used to.

Amen. Duder is getting a bit preachy.

You write 'Amen' in a statement about another person getting 'preachy' in your opinion:D

Ohh no, you are no holy roller yourself - not at all:D

You had ONE job.

Almost monumental fail and quoted for posterity.

Gun-foot-bang:D

In order to get back on track; as I touched upon in a previous statement, maybe the OP should ask whether a knife is from a smoke free home, the next time he buys a knife. Lesson learned and all that.
As evidenced in this thread, buying a smoke smelling item is a problem for some - for others its not.
Though many ebay ads state, that an item is from a smoke free home, itll be a tall order to expect, that smokers would indicate, that an item is from a smokers home:D

Amen is generally colloquially known as a simple agreement, and it can have religious connotations, or not. It doesn't necessarily have to. It's just a quick way to say "I agree". Get it?

Monumental fail huh? Wow. I grow tired of your trolling. And yes you are preachy, and it's you who has your panties bunched up. Over a scent.

And I am FAR from a holy roller.

How old are you? I'm guessing one extreme or the other, and all the problems that come along with it......
