Combatchet Proto WIP

Hey Rick,

Here we go with the "Wire Breaker" notch yet again, eh?;)

The only way to gain leverage on it that I can see with it in that position would be to grab the axe head... oh, wait a minuate!! That dosen't sound like a good idea!

If it is put somewhere where it is parallel with the axe head that would provide the handle to use for leverage...

For whatever it is worth!!

(PS - All I do in the Air Force is Infantry stuff, outside the wire, normally with foreign militaries... :D )

Frank,You have given me great input on this design.Taking that into account,I'll locate back where it was.:)Then once you field test it,we'll find out the truth on where it will function most effectivley.Thanks,Bro.:D

Not a probnlem!! In the interest in fairness, we could put is several differnt places at once on the Prototype to really test and see what works in real life... what does everyone else think??

Also, I do some leather work in addition to being a wanna be knife maker.;)

It would be easy for me to make a sheath out of leather that incorperates the molle idea that MJF submitted (good call by the way, MJF!!) ... the kydex is really looking awesome by the way!!!

It's all good, and this is a really awesome project that you've started!!!

Frank,That would be a good idea by locating a wire breaker in different spots to see which one wins out.I'm checking into the Molle concept.:D

Frank,You have a example of a Molle clip?Explain how it operates.I need to wrap my head around this type of tactical attachment system.:D

The spike is the second bolt-on attachment other than the hammer attachment so far,I thinking of having a tool bag attached to the sheath for the various attachments. If you have any suggestions about a attachment feel free to submit them.:D

I'm also looking at making this rig Molle compatable.

I like that one too, I was thinking maybe an attachment similar to a welder's chipping hammer with a steep edge for work that would otherwise dull the axe (like stone)

Keith,Interesting suggestion.:D How viable would you think that type of attachment be in active duty? What scenario?Remember I'm a civilian knifemaker!:D

I don't know :foot:
on second thought I dont see myself using it, but like the mortar shells being pried with a knife you never know...

Spike looks awesome! As for the molle gear attachment, try this :

This is a description found on Wikipedia:

The (Molle) grid consists of horizontal rows of 1" Type III nylon webbing (most commercial vendors use Type IIIa), spaced 1" apart, and reattached to the backing at 1.5" intervals

Using this "Grid" one weaves the attachment through the "Ladder" and finished the weave with a snap closure at the end.

If you need something hands on, I can send you and example...

Keith,I'm seeing how the Molle system works.Would a snap strap work on a Molle grid?My thought on the spike attachment is,The spike could be attached when needed. Not meant to be carried while attached. But on the other hand,I'm looking at a version with the attachment holes,One with one-piece design w/ spike. All I need to do is extend the head sheath to cover the spike.

This is the possible attachments you could bolt-on,I plan on milling a slight recess in the hatchet itself to further lock in the attachment.
You have a pointed spike, recurve spike, hammer, shackle wrench, open end wrench.Working on making it molle compatible.I'm deciding on whether to design a kydex toolcarry box that might attach to the titanium spine,Not too much room to work it in.

I was visualizing using the finger ring,I see a potential for your finger to be cut on the beard edge.I incorporated a guard to prevent that from happening.

Added traction notches on the underside to insure grip using finger ring.
