It is as 90 with a heat index of 105 at 9 last night.
Storm hit around 9:15 and the temp dropped 20 degrees.
Was a bit exciting for the next 3-4 hours.

good lord, it sounds awful out there. It was ~92 in eastern CT today, but fortunately pretty dry. Swabs are marching around outside - hope none of them have dropped.

Went to the GF's house and jumped in her pool. Bliss.

Also, ordered more steel. Because.... steel.

My daughter doesn't know what I have started :) . My daughter has a 12 year old boy and 15 year old girl. Here boyfriend that she seems to be getting serious about also has 12 year old boy and 15 year old girl. ) extra grandkids are always a good thing. I gave each one a bag. Condor or UTG . A first aid kit, sewing kit and a pocket size pack of wet wipes. Then they asked what I. Carry. I got my work EDC bag and they went through it asking questions about why I carry items. There are 4 teenagers planning tactical EDC bags :)

got up yesterday and thought the AC didn't sound right, but it was still cycling on and off.
got home last night and again thought something was off, but then it turned on like always a bit before 10 (setback program for better sleeping temps)
it was not cooling.
at 0130, I was outside troubleshooting. went back to bed a bit after 2.
called the HVAC folks this morning and explained that I would not be home after 12:30 because I had to take my wife to a medical appointment.
the owner showed up at 11, listened to my troubleshooting and thoughts that it sounded like a bad capacitor -- and that's where he started looking.
yup - bad.
replaced it and the system kicked on immediately.
gave it 20 min of runtime and started checking temps and pressures -- no other issues.
$210 and done.

house is cooler now.

phew!!!
I'm terrified of my old thru-wall unit dying.
It can keep the downstairs comfortably cool. I blow the cool air up the stairs, and that's really stretching it. But at least I don't have to set up a sleeping area downstairs in the summer.

if you don't have central air, mini-splits can be found pretty inexpensive and so are "saddle style" (AKA "micro-split") window units that are a game changer if you want a comfy bedroom AND to still be able to use the window.

There are only two upstairs windows that can take an A/C, both 3 stories up. Windows are in bad shape and take the brunt of the nor'easters, so I don't bother. One day, maybe. The new saddle ones are a great design improvement.

I’ve been away about 100 years.
Just completed my first elk hunt, outside of Bend. Gave the BK 62 and 16 a rest. Used Ryan W’s skinner to, well, skin her down.

Was hoping to pick up some Passenger Bread. But I guess that comes down from Portland.

Youngest starts OSU in the fall, so may have an opportunity to swing through Portland in the next 4 years.
Sent the older one home from Eugene airport just a couple weeks ago, after camping in Glide.
In the summer, I really like the PNW.

mini-splits aren't bad but they can potentially leak - too many joints - but easy enough to fix according to my tech. use laser probe or FLIR, make sure the differential is still good, topping off coolant is fairly trivial.

speaking of techs, servicing. at least every 2 years, SOMEONE has to clean the screens inside, vac, check for mold... make sure the drain tube are clear - potentially put some chlorine down those tubes. if you have vermin, potentially puts little screens over the outside of the drain tube (and clean those if you have them)... the main outside units do pretty well...

what is wondrous about them is getting a/c where YOU want it, esp without a window - like a basement, or a garage, or ... well, there you have it

The remnants of the hurricane blew through here overnight - just breezy with brief periods of pounding rain. At least this week is looking good.

Next box of wood is nearly ready to go out for stabilizing.

I picked up a 90 pound rock from our business neighbor who operates a building material supply. It is intended to be my first attempt at stone basin making, so I looked for a manageable size and agreeable shape in stone.

It should be an experience! I want to make it into a bird bath, but we'll see.
