computer help :grumpy:

jerrinfla, do you have gmail? bmilla35 and i were using the built in messenger earlier and it worked pretty good.

i see one problem. you're using aol :p:D. are you in the admin account or a different one?

LOL ....for what it's worth, here's what I like about AOL.

- Their email client does not run scripts. If you're using Outlook Express or Outlook and don't change a number of default settings, scripts can run in your email & infect your system even if you don't download anything or click on a link to a malicious website in the body of the mail.

- They allow 16 megabyte attachments to an email. All the other email programs I've used set the lmit at 8 megabytes. It's been a few years since I tried any other e-mail servers, but I do remember being dismayed when G-mail first came out with their own webmail server with a huge amount of storage space for the time, but they still capped attachments at 8 megabytes. So I stopped using them and continued using AOL for e-mail.

I certainly wouldn't do any web browsing within AOL because their browser front end is extremely slow, but I think their e-mail is great.

gmail is up to 20 mb now. sign up for gmail and get on the messenger and lend a hand thats right up your alley :D

If it matters...I already deleted it lol

I haven't use G-mail since it first came out. I haven't even used any messenger programs at all in a year or two.

Another possibility. Download Process Assassin. No installation needed, so it may not block it. It's basically your process manager with a different name and harsher kill qualities. If it'll run, just start knocking off suspicious looking processes until you have control of msconfig again.

Edit: I somehow missed the post about fixing it so disregard this!

I read the first and last page but it doesn't seem like you have got the problem fixed.

I ran into the same bug. If I remember correctly it also had a pop up trying to sell a program that would 'fix' it.

I went to this website and asked for help and got it fixed. I'm not sure if following the instructions will help you but you can register and ask again. Good luck!

Figured I would take screenshots of what comes up when trying to install the other programs as well...

I'm sorry that you're having such a difficult time with this virus/spyware. Obviously it's running in the background and preventing you from installing certain software or reaching certain websites. It's also likely, if you've had problems and kept using the computer on the internet in the meantime, that you now have multiple infections.

Also, something jumps out at me about your screenshot. LimeWire may contain spyware. I've read the new versions are clean, but some of the old versions did contain intrusive and invasive spyware/ad-ware.

One more bit, should be common sense but it's worth noting, sharing files with strangers over the internet is the easiest way to get viruses and spyware installed.

---------------------

As I said earlier, I've seen a similar infection as your's but I don't believe it was the exact same thing.

One thing that really helped me solve similar problems in the past, sort the files in the Windows and Windows/System folder by date. The newest files are possibly related to the virus/spyware infection.

That's alllll my brother. I always uninstall it then he installs it to download music for his ipod (hopefully that's all he is doing :barf:)

Sorry to hear you are still having problems. If you PM your address to me, I will send you a hard copy of MalwareBytes. I used it on my grandson computer and it took care of all the crap he picked up from all those shared music sites. Don't email me though, I don't want to chance one of those little bugs you got following it to me.

look in the history and you'll see where he has been unless its been deleted. if he's not paying for the music, i would put an end to his downloading. you can block him from limewire too.

Did you try going to Start - Control Panel - User Accounts while in safe mode to try creating a new Admin account? If that works & you can log in with the new Admin account, then some of the programs that weren't installing might install and run & will have a chance to try to fix the problem.
You might also try uninstalling the limewire programs. If you use them you can always reinstall them if you get your system up and running properly again.

There's also fewer holes in a screen door compared to Java and Adobe. Once you get sorted out, update them.

Just a little update before work...I still cant download anything. I tried to access the task manager or whatever its called, the Alt+Ctrl+Delete button and it says that the it has been disabled by the administrator, which I am. But, the re-directing has stopped like I said so I guess thats good enough until I have to download something.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a nice new year, and thanks for all the help!
