Concerns About Survive! Business and Misleading Lead Time Estimates

Yeah, but this thread is not known for its pleasant demeanor and optimistic disposition.
The uninformed might actually suspect you of employing a bit of sarcasm. ;)

With all the positive attitude around here no winder Guy never posts here
This place used to be a good place to discuss Survive!

Cry me a river. If I was late with hundreds, maybe thousands of customer orders, I'd expect some consternation about it.

But that's cool if you think everyone should mollycoddle a guy who makes survival knives for a living, and give him an A for effort, while nursing his wounds and petting his head. I don't agree, but you're entitled to that opinion.

How much forgiveness and how many excuses do you think are needed before complaints become valid?

Or have you considered that given the volume of complaint, there might actually be a problem, and that worrying about how the founder of a company feels about his pissed off customers smells a bit like Stockholm syndrome?

If "this used to be a good place to discuss survive", that might be because patience wears thin, and the experience of being a prospective customer might possibly have been less of a bummer. Broken promises breed resentment. What's surprising about that?

Mr. Negative himself always there to keep this thread alive.

Let's take a step back, guys.

Like the title of the thread says, THIS thread is about the concerns and discussing them. If you want to discuss concerns, let's do it. Let's not attack eachother.

If you want to talk about your favorite GSO there are many, many threads for that and many people ready for that discussion. You can ignore this one and get involved with what makes you happy.

I still think this is a great place to discuss Survive. But if you discuss Survive you must discuss all of Survive. In this thread there are many long time Survive fans who are very frustrated, rightfully so IMO, and voicing their frustrations. With the exception of a few, I think most here have been pretty reasonable.

Well, excuuuuuuuse me.

If you don't want to read about concerns about Survive Knive (the business), why don't you just stick to the majority of the other threads in this sub, which are about the actual product, and universally positive?

What offends you so much about people having issues with the business and expressing them on a forum about that business, in a thread started expressly for that purpose?!!

I you don't like the subject, why read it, and moreover why start with the personal nonsense?

Grow up, son.

I agree. If you have a concern, let's talk about it here. I think that will help keep all other threads more focused.

It's pretty simple:
if you are concerned: ask for a refund, buy something else
if not: wait

This thread is mostly whining by people who don't want to cancel and don't want to wait.
Grow up son.

Just keep it fresh and new instead of the same hash over and over.

I have my knife. Try again. I also did cancel an order for a 4.1, and bought something else while I was waiting for my 4.7.

If you don't like the thread don't participate in the thread. If you don't have a concern, what business is it of yours if others do? Are you being paid to be an apologist?

I honestly think that a lot of the ridiculous dismissal by the S!K faithful is basically conceived as follows:

"I have my knives, and got them back when the getting was good and/or didn't care about the wait and/or am primarily a collector, so the wait was irrelevant. So screw the newer customers and their issues — I want it to be like the good old days when we could sit around fondling our S!K knives secure in the knowledge that we were members of a very special club surrounding the best li'l knife company around. Pooh pooh these newbies and their issues. I wish they'd just leave us all alone."

Well you know what? You can have it the way you like. Stick to the other threads. Like a grown-up.

You seem to have alot of pent up frustration...
You have said the same thing over and over again in multiple posts. Do you have anything new to add to the conversation ?

There's a subset of folks from your side of the proverbial aisle — you included — who keep being willfully ignorant about how anyone could have a valid complaint, so I keep feeling compelled to re-explain it to you. I personally have exactly no dog in this fight anymore, as I have my 4.7 (it's wonderful, by the way —*totally lives up to the hype). I won't, however, order anything else directly from S!K until some future time when their product is available in a ready-to-ship format, either directly or through a retailer.

That doesn't, however, preclude me from having an opinion about why their customers are so pissed off.

Do you have anything new to add to the conversation, other than repeatedly dismissing anyone who complains about a company that repeatedly and consistently fails to deliver on promises to their customers?

No?

Then, physician, heal thyself.

Look Timi I never said that your complaint is not valid.
Yes survive is slow to deliver their product. Many people have said so in this thread (you many times)... But what else is new ? This has been the case from the start of survive knives.
If you don't like their buisness model sell the knife you have, cancel all orders: there are many other great options out there. I choose to keep my orders because I love ther amazing product + price.

My concern is that with all this negative attitude Survive! will move away from bladeforums (remember they are paying for the subforum) like others have done in the past (ESEE. Bark River).
That would be a shame I think.

I don't disagree with any of that. Other than maybe the characterization that I'm somehow exclusively negative —*for my part, I feel that I've actually, on many occasions, defended aspects of their business that they are doing well at, beyond the product itself (for one, I think that selling the 2nds early, however controversial, is smart — and I've said so. Failing to deliver on quoted timelines, in the same circumstance, is just dumb, however).

And why would I sell the knife I have? I don't have anything against the company, other than their truly baffling inability to set and stick to timelines. I don't feel like my enjoyment of my knife is diminished by this. And I'm not out here leading some pitchfork mob to go to the FTC and have them hanged from the rafters like some other users. I actually do want them to succeed. But I also know that sweeping issues under the rug doesn't help a damned thing. If I can help to articulate the nature of the mass frustration, then hopefully that's actually beneficial in the long run.

At this point, S!K can't possibly be confused about how much frustration there is, and the nature of it. Ultimately, I see the balance of attitude around the company more or less mirroring the reality of the company: there's a LOAD of positivity about the product (hell, there wouldn't be so much frustration if people didn't care). But there's also a healthy dollop of aggravated people, thanks to some puzzling and disappointing delays and communication inconsistencies, and I can't fathom how that's controversial?

All they need to do is turn around the delivery timelines and communication about them, and this all goes away, and it's rainbows and sunshine, happily ever after. I'd hope that Guy sees that, and doesn't vacate the forums in the meantime. There's literally only one singular issue plaguing their reputation, and the experience of being a customer. It's painful to see them fail to fix that issue in an ongoing manner.

But until that happens, begrudging others their consternation seems a bit futile.

No new exciting news for this forum in today's first Friday report.😂 Hope actions speak bigger than words this month.

Today's update:

Current Production:
GSO-4.7: Preorders are on schedule to ship out next week. Presales will be shipping out in the following weeks.

The last of the GSO-2.7 preorders from the SURVIVE! Starter Campaign are also being shipped next week. The remaining preorders and presale orders will be shipping out in regular batches.

GSO-4.1 materials are in the SURVIVE! Workshop and orders will be starting to be built over the next few weeks, as blades are through our finishing steps.

The GSO-7/7 blades will also be starting to work their way through our finishing processes, while we wait for sheaths to be pressed.

Cutting is scheduled to start for the GSO-3.5 in December.
Future Production:
Production is scheduled to continue in the following order:
GSO-12
GSO-6
GSO-4.5 Bushcraft
GSO-10
GSO-8
The following knives will be added to the Production Schedule as soon as we have steel to start cutting them out:
GSO-5.1
Necker and Necker II
SURVIVE! News:

Some of our long time customers will remember a batch of GSO-4.1 Scandi ground knives that Guy wasn't happy with. Those blades have been able to get some work as test samples or paperweights, but we decided it was about time they lost some weight and went out to get themselves a real job. Guy was able to re-tune the design and they are looking great. Those blades just finished at production grinding and will be heading to heat treating shortly.
Be sure to keep an eye on the Limited Edition area of our website in the next few days for more details! There will also be some teaser images @SurviveKnives.
