Concerns About Survive! Business and Misleading Lead Time Estimates

You lack of principles explanation is just as much conjecture as the they don't have the money explanation.

No, it is quite clear they don't operate according to a principle of not misleading their customers. If they did, they wouldn't continue to advertise lead times they clearly cannot meet and they would be up front about any timing issues related to refunds. Whether they have the money or not or can pay their other bills or need preorder money or are short staffed or whatever else, would be irrelevant if they were operating according to the principle of not misleading their customers, so clearly they lack it.

This was the last straw for me. I requested a refund on Thursday and haven't heard anything.
 
Esav suggests less feet to the fire, more light, Ok.

Here's a scenario I've been pondering. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that they are in the proverbial hole with water pouring in but are salvageable, how many people would invest in Survive! at that point? I don't mean buy more products with no delivery date, that formula obviously does not work, but actually invest hard cash with a delayed small return to make them viable? Personally I could put in 25-30k towards the effort but they would need to have someone else managing the show while Guy just focuses on production which seems to be where his talent is. Wonder how much money it would take?

I'm a paycheck to paycheck guy for the most part , but I set aside investments and savings and could rub 5k together to invest in the company and I would. I wouldn't ask for any changes in the operations of the company though, investors kill the efficiency of companies with things like that. There is a market for the knives, and there are people hip deep in trying to make the company work. That's worth investing in by itself. Investments are almost by definition a statement of trust, and I trust that Guy and Ellie are doing their damnedest to keep their GSO baby alive.
 
I've order a knife , waited a year. They have the steel , I'm not backing out now , not over a couple hundred bucks. It's not like they're off on vacations , they're just busy , be patient and let them work .

I dont have much to add to this discussion. I dont really feel like getting involved. But i just looked at the Swamp Rat Knife page. They list a delivery time of "...time frame can range from 6 weeks to as much as 32 weeks."

So i guess this type of broad range is accepted in the knife industry. I honestly do not have a problem with a company posting this type of time frame. Maybe S!K should do the same thing but expand it to something like "6 weeks to 60 weeks". Maybe people would feel better if they knew what they were getting into. Just a idea.

I get that you are frustrated both with the ordering and being ignored as far as getting your refund goes but you should direct that ire to Survive! where it belongs, and not the fellow members here. Advocating for others to buy so you can get a refund and they can be in your shoes later is a bit hypocritical.

If you paid through Paypal, file a dispute, I guarantee they will respond to that. Without them they have no way to take in additional payments.

I am advocating the Faithful going in eyes wide open to buy a 7/7. My advocating the remaining vocal faithful to "put money where mouth is" is not hypocritical, rather just the opposite. You implied my refund was stalled out from the lack of 7/7 presales, so why WOUDLN'T I advocate? If 7/7 presales will get his SK business model engine moving again (that appears stalled out) why not advocate?? Helps me, helps faithful get their knives, helps SK... etct.. Besides, regarding paypal, that ship has sailed. I am past the time frame for dispute even if I wanted.

Remember this, despite my snarky smart ass remarks.. there are some that have lost faith (me), some skeptics, and some sincere faithful that have faith that SK has always and will continue to deliver. And fact being they (SK) have NEVER missed a delivery means the faithful have as valid an opinion and conjecture as me. So me advocating we all put our money where our mouth is.. works for all and is completely valid.

Yeah, I hate to concur on this (skystorm's) ☝️️ point, but at this stage Paypal disputes are likely the only actual action that any customer can take, aside from all the hand wringing, without being totally at the mercy of sk's languishings.
