Continuing to find ways to decorate with my traditionals...

Though I will not receive my newly ordered Queen Cutlery 'Dawn of a New Era' knife until later this week, I have already begun brainstorming the way in which it will be displayed. I just purchased this small front loading display/shadow box. I also went to the local picture printing place and made some 4"x6" copies of a Queen advertisement of the knife on order. The pic below shows how I plan to place one of these copies within this display, and a substitute knife to represent the incoming Queen knife. I decided this knife would be in it's very own display because of the significance of the knife to the recent purchase of Queen by the Daniel's family. This knife is suposedly the first special project knife since the new ownership took place. Also, with it being made in a limited run of only 100, I felt it needed it's own private space to shine and represent. The dollar bill in the photo is for scale purposes. Not sure if ultimately the display ends up on the wall, on a shelf like a standard pic frame, or if it will be laid flat on a table... have not ironed out the final touches yet. But, it has a beginning :-)

Btw... I added a black border and the words "Queen Cutlery" on the top, and "Limited Production of 100" to the bottom of the Queen advertisement. Obviously the advertisement has also been downscaled from the the likely bigger original size.

The brainstorming had some results... The game plan turned out to be to put it on my bedroom's wall ledge as one would place a picture frame on a shelf. Also, I was able to place the downsized copied Queen advertisement inside the display box. To do this, I first placed it in a black 4x6 picture frame. Then, it got placed inside the display box by hot gluing it in place. All that is needed now is my brainstorming an idea to suspend the incoming knife next to the framed advertisement (likely will hot glue in a mini shelf of some sort). Maybe I'll wait for the knife to arrive first... I mean, hot gluing something in now and getting it wrong, would put a big kabosh on this project. Anyhow, so far, so good :-)

With my new knife likely arriving by usps tomorrow, I had to finish my brainstorming to complete the display it will be housed in. All I needed was to figure out a way to suspend it beside the 4x6 picture frame that I already installed within the display box. Well, this is the final product, basically being a mini shelf to keep the knife at a certain angle against the back of the display box. I also installed some felt behind the shelf, so that the knife's mother of pearl handle will stick out more with a black background :-)

With my latest Falcon lockback stiletto wiped down and placed inside this display, I realize that this case is almost filled to the brim. I have made room for my incoming Rough Rider canoe... and there is room for another miniature or small knife in the bottom right area, but that's about it. Diversity has taken over in this display... and much of it coming from different origins around the world (France, China, USA, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain via the Linder mini fixed blades). It's been fun filling this case. The true surprise for me of all these, were the two Italian Falcon brand lockback stilettos, being incredible bang for the buck :) Maybe a new display case idea is shortly in order... because any new incoming knives will obviously need a home in Pocketknifejimmy's mini knife museum ;) Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving :)

Having added the new Wenger Evowood knife that my daughter gifted me to my display, room has now become scarce as can be.... but I think I'll be able to squeeze one more in :)

Having just added my Alox SAK to the display, and somehow making room for one more incoming knife before I call this display complete... I get to see how it evolved. Initially when I purchased this display case/shadow box, I was thinking maybe filling it with miniature knives. Well, once I started, it took life of it's own. Miniatures made it in, for sure, but was not to become the theme for this display. The theme wound up being diversity. Diversity in patterns, sizes, handle scale materials, blade steels, but most importantly, different countries. I now see Italy, Germany, France, China, USA, Switzerland, and Spain made knives in this case. I only have one more spot to fill to consider this project done... having no plans to start a new one, yet... but who knows where that will take me in this knife journey of mine :)

Brands found in this display are... Victorinox, Opinel, Parapluie, Case, Wenger, Mercator/OtterMesser, Linder, Falcon, Rough Rider, and whatever maker of the French Douk Douk. My having started my knife collecting in USA knives... this display shows a bit of change of heart... Though USA made knives still make up the biggest part of my collection pie :)

Twenty two knives later, this display is now a full and complete project. Definitely has a worldly and diverse theme :)

If that's just your collection along with a bunch of other framed knives, I wonder how big your edc collection is.

Yeah, I have completed filling a total of seven knife displays, thus far. As for my edc collection... it consists of only one. Of course if it ever breaks, or gets lost... another will have to replace it. But until then, One knife is all I require for everyday use (and it does come in handy oftenly) :)
