CPK and Whisky (or other vices), a pictorial

Forgive my saying so, but I think Buffalo Trace is overrated. (There, I said it and now I'm ducking and running.)
Nah I get it. I think the higher price labels out of their distillery are overrated a al blantons.
BT and Weller hit the sweet spot for me but scarcity, whether manufactured or real, caused me to find other labels

Edit - BT should be nothing more than a $30 bottle bought at the store anytime.

Yeah, it's hard to get a good bourbon anymore at a good price. Last bottle of Henry McKenna I had was $38 or so. I wish I could get my hands on it, but JTS Brown, (Heaven Hill), is a great low cost bourbon. But the friggin' ABC stores here are low on stock when you visit, and save the good stuff for their cronies.

I refuse to pay some of the going prices, even if I can afford them.

It was a fine option when you could easily find it on just about any shelf for $22 +/- but I never guessed it would become a scarce, coveted whiskey.

I used to love Blanton's, but as others have commented, I can't even remember the last time I saw a bottle on the shelf and while it's very good, I'm not going to pay inflated prices for it.

It's unfortunate to see the price-gougey, cultivated scarcity that the bourbon market has become. These days, I usually stick with Four Roses SB & Woodford, just cuz they're consistently good sippers, and I can regularly find them for sub-$40/bottle.

I've also been pleasantly surprised by some of the High West distillery offerings, which I had pretty low expectations going into. Might be the best thing to ever come out of Utah. 🤣

I just bought a bottle of Blantons, I just want the little horsey on the lid, probably will pour the booze down the drain. The drain is my mouth though
Blanton's is nigh on unobtainium around these parts. I vaguely remember what it tastes like. I have some pedestrian Elijah Craig small batch on the counter awaiting a Glencairn glass.

Huge problem with our state (NC) controlled allocation. Our county sells the perceived good stuff and htf bottles before it hits a shelf.
At least my county in MD has controlled allocation. Can’t ever find something like Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, all those others we all want unless you het extremely lucky you showed up when your usual store got 3 bottles, or signed up and won for some lottery once or twice a year.
Sadness.

As an aside, My wife and I brought a bottle of wine and Eagle Rare to her aunt and uncle in Turkey… I packed these bottles in the center of the suitcase, packed with bubble wrap and clothing to cushion it all.
Only the wine made it. My wife’s clothing was lucky enough to imbibe an entire bottle of ER and glass shards to boot.
Being as ER is so hard to come by, I was really hoping to get a bottle to her uncle. 😞
Maybe next year 🤞🤷‍♂️

I'm friends with the manager of our local booze store, and he set aside a bottle of Eagle Rare for me recently - I think he had a case come in, all of it spoken for except this one bottle. Sold it to me for standard price, too (which was the only way I was going to buy it). Who knows when I'll see another bottle of that with the way things are going.

Enjoying a bottle of 1792 right now. Not high tier, but plenty good for a nightcap.
