Wearing electrical/vibrating collars since last week to keep them away from acorns, which are crazy this year.

I'm posting this as a memorial to my beautiful girl. I lost her two years ago today, just shy of her 10th birthday, to stomach cancer I could do nothing about. I miss her so much.

These photos were taken about a month before she passed:

She was about 3 years old here:

And 10 to 12 weeks old here. Her first snow - she went crazy, always loved playing in the snow.

She's beautiful! So sorry for your loss.

Nine years ago, today, we brought home "Skyler". Who rescued who is in question.

(This was taken when we got her home that day. She was estimated to be 1 at the time, so today is what we consider her 10th birthday.)

Anybody here a vet or vet tech? I cut my dog's nails and clean her ears, (gently), every ten days...so this is a recent development inside Skyler's ear flap, but not ear canal.

I don't know if it's parasitic, irritation, contact / allergy related. Melanoma from laying on the deck in the sun?

My vet is closed until Monday, so figured I'd see if it looks familiar to any of you all. (I was thinking maybe ear mites, but we've been lucky with our dogs not coming down with parasites in the past.)

Thanks for any thoughts...

Here's some pix:

A buddy from another forum's girlfriend was a vet tech for 15 years and says she doesn't think it's an emergency at the moment, but that it looks like a biopsy may be called for. She doesn't think it looks parasitic.

I am an electrician. I have no veterinary background. In the photos it’s hard to tell but I’m going to throw this out there because you may be able to see it better in person.
This is based more on where you live.
Spider bites will have two small puncture wounds side by side. They are easy enough to see because the tissue is most damaged at those sites. Will literally be two little dots.
I bring this up because you live in brown recluse territory and their bites cause necrosis. I think you also have black widows and the big wolf spiders. The necrosis from a recluse turns the tissue black.

Perhaps it is a blood blister from a mosquito bite. You said any thoughts :D

I was a vet tech for a while. It looks like some sort of harmless growth. Wouldn't hurt to get it checked out but it's probably benign.

Thanks, Jo. We'll hope for the best and I plan on calling the vet and at least sending them images on Monday.

It's odd because it wasn't there ten days ago...so it was pretty quick developing.

Really appreciate the input.

I’m not a Vet or Vet Tech either, but have a lifetime of numerous dog & hunting dog needed vet condition checkups.

I can offer you the advice that if you do plan to bring Skyler in Monday or even the near future, to not pick at, rub, apply any ointment, or not even continuously bend her ear open to keep looking at it (occasionally checking on it is fi. You don’t want to accidentally change the natural color of it or irritate it before the Vet can see it’s natural state or s new fresh picture.

And you don’t want Skyler to start scratching at it either from you over touching it, maybe making it itchy, out of your love and concern for her. One big scratching fit episode from her back leg can really alter the appearance of that mark.

It’s appearance doesn’t look alarming, and many possible things could have caused that to appear suddenly. That being said, a fresh picture sent to the Vet Monday morning and a phone call to him/her will certainly give you peace of mind. An appointment to rule out any danger and give you a proper diagnosis is really the best advice I can offer you.

A BIG hug to Skyler for her 10th birthday.

Appreciate it. This is far from our first rodeo. Skyler's been pretty stoic through most of her years...with a few curveballs every so often to keep us on our toes.

Our Weimaraner, Smoky, now he knew how to wring me out.

It'll be what will be. I just hadn't seen that before in our dogs' ears. Smoky did develop some tumors in the year leading up to having to let him go to his rest. That was a rough patch.
