The heterochromia suits the pooch well!Letting enjoying the trip with us.![]()
This 6 YO thoroughbred mare was to be humanely euthanized due to Trigeminal-mediated headshaking not long ago.
This condition made her difficult to handle, ride, and just be around in general.
Got skeptical after getting some background and asked the owner if I could try to turn her course around.
It was lots of work with more than a few sketchy scenarios along the way, but she made it.
We got to win one for the right reasons this time, and so I owe a thanks to BF and the CPK crowd. You help a beat up struggling horseman keep his strength up while doing silly things like proving points about “people problem” horses.
Sweet and quiet now with a likely future of high-performer. Her stall is hopefully one that becomes one of my last stops on the way out of the barn each evening for a long time.
Could watch her travel all day.
Thought maybe you may enjoy too.
Gonna have to do before videos next time…
Thank you! Quite often people will say that and then follow up with, "Can she see out of that eye?" I've never noticed her not having any disability. The heterochromia suits the pooch well!
Awesome you made such good progress! I had never known of that issue with horses and imagine it drives them bonkers. People with trigeminal neuralgia are miserable but nerve blocks can really help. This 6 YO thoroughbred mare was to be humanely euthanized due to Trigeminal-mediated headshaking not long ago.

Now our other doggie I could tell she had vision problems when we got her as a pup and it's just progressed worse over the years. This pic is her and me from about 2 1/2 years ago.

We’ve been pretty fortunate over the years it sounds like. The working dogs we’ve been near have had very few problems with the condition from what I can recollect currently.
Apologies for not making one post here everybody…catching up too quickly.Awesome you made such good progress! I had never known of that issue with horses and imagine it drives them bonkers. People with trigeminal neuralgia are miserable but nerve blocks can really help.
Veterinary medicine and therapy must be so harder not getting subjective info, and honestly the fact that animals are generally nicer than people. Thank you for being patient and persistent!
She's beautiful. This 6 YO thoroughbred mare was to be humanely euthanized due to Trigeminal-mediated headshaking not long ago.
