BTW, Cane rescue centers across country are completely over-run. The breed became popular after movies such as GOT and King Arthur, many people decided to breed privately in their back-yard, lots of people got puppies in the pandemic and now don't want their large dog anymore. :(
This, and lots of crappy people putting them in hip-hop videos and portraying the dogs as drug dealer protection- there are some bad breeders out there just looking for cash.

Just another thing- Boerboels are great dogs and very athletic, loyal, etc and have 2 benefits over some other mastiff breeds in that they generally are very tolerant of other dogs and they live longer than most as well. We had hoped to get a couple after our Tosa’s passed away at 11 yrs. We couldn’t find any Tosa’s, but the Boerboel breeding we hoped for didn’t happen.

Imho Tosa’s are my ideal dog and the two we had were just the best. They were also the most hard headed and stubborn dogs to train. When my wife would tell my boy Tank to do something, he would look at me first and wait until I repeated it. If I was not there, he was very obedient to her.

Sorry for the rant- I love dogs!

Sorry for your loss Big DJ Big DJ .
Growing up all our dogs were miniature schnauzers.
One of the original hypoallergenic breeds.
We had four different ones through the years. Three were male and one female, Patches. She was my favorite of the bunch. Unfortunately, she would randomly attack other kids in the neighborhood so she was only with us for about two years.
Fun breed. They were never afraid to tussle with the raccoons or opossums despite usually being in a lower weight class.

My parents got a miniature Schnauzer when I went away to college. What that says about him replacing me, I really can't say...or prefer not to think about. ☺️

He was with them for about 17 years...and my sisters had a good long stretch living with him as well before marriage.

The only two folks he ever bit were my two future brothers-in-law. Smart dog.

That's not at all surprising, unfortunately. Shameful. Humans suck.

I know a lot of you here have found your 4-legged family members at shelters and such. If anyone is looking for a new dog, please, please, please consider rescues first. The animals that end up in shelters are usually the byproduct of human carelessness and/or worse. All five of mine (too many, wouldn't recommend) are rescues and aside from the obvious impact on our personal lives, they are living their best life.

(Charlie and Max - please pardon the messy floor, hair management is almost a fulltime job with 5 dogs)
