CPK Pet Thread

Sorry to hear this EMCEE EMCEE .
Always a tough decision. My condolences to you and your family.
I sat with my first dog (and others since) on the floor of the vets office. He was a 90+ pound Newfoundland mix. He made it 13 years. He put his big head on my lap, looked up at me and gave my hand one last lick.
The vets office had done an ink pad paw print that they gave me on my way out. I came across it just this past Saturday while unpacking some boxes from my recent move. It brought a big smile to my face.

We’re saying farewell to big Kona today. She’s been a wonderful part of the family and has lived a substantial and content 9 years and 11 months. Sadly, she’s suffering greatly and it’s time to help her find peace. We’re very grateful for the love, loyalty, and protection you’ve given our family, Big Girl ! You will be missed and remembered fondly.ā¤ļøšŸ„ŗ

So sorry. Wishing you peace knowing you helped her past the suffering, just as she would have asked if she could.

I'm so sorry, MC. I have no doubts she had an amazing life with you all. Our thoughts are with you guys.

^^^^^^^^I sincerely appreciate the kind words, reassurances, and condolences from all of you. It occurred to me while reading each sentiment that all of you know the feeling and it helped me stay steadfast and offer love and support to Kona, my wife, and children. A heartfelt thank you !!!

Kona is at peace now. She was a wonderful part of our lives and the memories of her will be cherished. It may sound cheesy (but when has that ever stopped me) but I truly hope that ā€œ all good dogs go to heavenā€. She was 170 pounds of pure love, loyalty, and goodness.

Best regards to all of you fine folks !

Michael

Oh, I sincerely hope there are dogs in heaven.

I have a daydream that when I get there, my old bird dog, Koa, will be waiting, with that "let's go, boss! " look he got. And there will be one big field of native grass, so big that I cannot walk it in a day, or a week. So big it goes on to the horizon. It's that perfect, golden, CRP kind of field. And my dog goes out into that ocean of grass and finds me a bird again. That would be wonderful.

A beautiful vision ! ā¤ļø Of course, this means there’ll be shotguns in heaven too, just no need for OO Buck. šŸ‘šŸ¼

Micheal, it looks like he was a large part of your family, so sorry for your loss, it’s hard to make this decision. Our prayers are with you and your family

I'm so sorry for your loss, Michael. Some say losing a dog is harder than losing a person and I have to say I often agree. She's definitely waiting for you on the other side of the rainbow bridge

If my dogs aren't in heaven, I don't want to go.

I'll go wherever they went.

My wife and I celebrated out 32nd anniversary 2 weeks ago, and in all those years our 7 year old Addie is our 3rd dog. We loved Ameretta, and Snickers who came after her too; but the heart-break was too great after each time one passed, and we'd swear off dogs "forever" when one would pass.

But that pet free time only lasted about 2 years before we'd miss having a dog, and got our 2nd or 3rd one. So we only had a 2 year break from 1998-2000 and another 2 year break around 2016-2018 where we didn't have a dog in the home. I'm going to be heart-broken again in about 10 years, and I don't know why we put ourselves through that over and over again.

We lasted three months after Smoky passed. We lasted ten days after Skyler passed. Seems we don't do well without a dog in the home.

(It was our 37th anniversary last week.)

and I don't know why we put ourselves through that over and over again.

The pain we feel at their passing is the price we pay for their love and companionship. They turn a house into a home.

Congratuation on the immense accomplishment, Elliott. 37 years of marital bliss, that is wonderful !

We’re debating whether or not to get another pup ourselves. When I came through the garage early this morning, I fully expected and sorely missed Kona’s single loud bark. She’d always let ya know she knew you were there that way.

Also, we have an extra large doggy door and BEWARE OF DOG signs that are a testament to her massive and majestic presence. The little bulldogs, although loved dearly, just don’t seem to size up.

We’ll think on the decision for a while. Then perhaps I’ll be reaching out to y’all CPK pet lovers concerning MEDIUM sized breed suggestions. I’m thinking loyal, even-tempered, formidable, male, and intelligent….and don’t any of you smart asses claim that I just described you, either ! šŸ˜œšŸ˜‰šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼
