CPK Pet Thread

So my buddy Rufus has lost a lot of weight over the last month 8 or so lbs and started around 35. Friday we got all the test results his liver has stop working he is 15 years old. He is still in good spirits and is getting around ok but it’s been hard on all of us we are going to see how he feels and acts over the next few weeks. It’s going to be a hard decision of when to put him down don’t want him to suffer but the tail keeps wagging. Sorry to hear mate

Well, after two days without, Kobe had another episode yesterday evening for a few hours. Guess I'm going to have to bring him in to the vet for some tests to see if we can determine what the matter is. It's exhausting...for the poor boy...and for us.

On the bright side, he slept fine in the night and appears good right now. But, given the two days between episodes, something is clearly amiss.

I hope you get on top of it mate and he comes out ok.

Went to the vet this morning and provided material for comprehensive blood, urine, and fecal exams. (Was another rough night last night)

Vet should have results in a couple of days, hopefully.

She prescribed gabapentin in the meantime for pain / anxiety / calming as needed, and mentioned, depending on results, the possibility of a generic Prozac. Time will tell.

One of his anal glands was full, the other partially, so we will see if that helps to mitigate his issues. He's pretty worked up right now, following the poking and prodding session, so I gave him one of the pills about 20 minutes ago.

(He also has to do a second three day course of Panacur to ensure that no whipworm eggs remain behind following the treatment from July, in addition to his monthly worm meds.)

Our dearly departed Sadie was on gabapentin for a couple of years. It seemed to help. Later she needed to go on the other pain med for her arthritis and that really gave her a good final year and half. We may hate the pharma companies, but this magic did not exist for our other dogs, but it does now and it helps.

Thanks guys. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. For the time being we are taking a break from animals and will wait until the kids are a little older before we get another dog.
I'm pretty sure I'll keep my promise that this is my last dog. But I've thought that before...and proven myself a liar.
