CPM 3V or INFI Folders

there is no INFI folder... closest you'll find is maybe a Vanax folder (Kershaw Tilt, Shirogorov).

Also, see Bill's response (post #2)... totally agree.

I'm about to order a Shirogorov. I love the Shirogorov, great flippers. So smooth. Have you used the Vanax? Wondering how it performs. I wi research it later but if you've had some experience with it let me know what you think.

Busse are the only knives to have INFI
Busse has never made a folding knife.

S90v or s110v is just as amazing in a folder. Unless you are going to buton it. Then find 3v.

I thought Busse made a folder? Did they ever release it?

Another user On here Charr swears by it, but I havent tried it yet... I have a few Busse's which also uses Nitrogen in their steel process so based on my use with INFI and Charrs using Vanax, it sounds like similar results.

Calavera Cutlery has made the El Patron in 3.75 inch both Flipper and non flipper in 3v. I have one I not because I wanted one in 3v rather just because I liked the design. 3v at 60+ Rockwell is no slouch in terms of edge retention but will not be in the same league as M4 M390 or S110v.

Cool. I have folders in M4, m390, and S125V. No S110V. I think I'm going with the strider. Their HQ is near my house so i just give them a visit. Might go with a Mick Strider Custom since he does his own knives now. Different than the Strider company. Dunno if he sold it or what happened, but I don't think he runs the Strider company anymore. His performance SnG is CPM-20CV. Seems interesting.

Bladetech made a folder for Swamp Rat, the "Rat Trap".

Jerry Busse did make a few prototypes of his folder design, the "Cubera", but it never went into production. Read more here:

But a few Hogs did have folders made (by others) from Busse knives, such as this one: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/539626-The-Busse-Folder-Unveiled

I have the K2 in 10V. Brick of a knife. Have you used any Of his other folders?

No, unfortunately...

I do have the Spyderco TUFF and while it is ugly the 3V steel is pretty awesome and the ergos work very well.

The Strider SMF's on the secondary market in 3V are :thumbup::thumbup: 3/4 grind all the way.

They have done a test of Vanax 75 vs. M390. The results page is in Russian, but the top of the two steels is Vanax, the bottom one in the table is M390. They measured the force (in kilograms) required to do the cut on a manilla rope after a set of cuts. They stopped cutting after the required cutting force reached 10 kilos. Results are below. As you can see, M390 pulled ahead initially (up to 120 cuts), but was outperformed by Vanax 75 in the long run:

Cool. Ya looks like the strider will have to come from secondary market. They're not making it in 3V at the moment.

mods please correct me if it unnaceptable to mention a custom maker not here. my buddy dan peters just got his milling machine up for folders and he is cpm3v or bust.
Ive got a flipper ready and will post it as soon as we meet up. whether or not its overkill for a small folder, ill see. I do know that i went through a car hood in anscrap yard and then shaved my arm with his kukri. I tend tonabuse stuff. busse and ratworx have had to honor a warranty for me.
ive gotten an axe, 2 kukris and a bushcraft knife so far-so more choppin and (gasp) prying than slicing. im looking forward tona bulletproof folder.

i dont want to link im sure thats against the rules but googling dan peters custom knives should do it. really nice guy. Ill chime in with pics\feedback soon.

I'd love to see his stuff. Sounds awesome.

I have 50+ folders now...so I'm specifically looking for 3V or INFI. Doesn't need to be a production knife. Custom will do. I own knives in s35VN, d2, CPM d2, 154cm, CPM 154, s30v, 1095, elmax, cts 204p, s125v, s90v, n690, m390, super blue, VG-10, 440c, cast 440c, 10V, and so on. Just looking for something Different. If the folder is overbuilt it shouldn't be weaker than the steel, edge retention is good for the 3V. So I'm not looking for advice on steels. I'm looking for a folder in 3V or INFI. Thanks again.

INFI folders do not exist.

Marty Young makes very reasonable priced customs. With CPM 3V if you want.

Picked up the Winkler F-1B folder/flipper in 3V and carbon fiber today at my local shop Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa, CA. They have one left in carbon fiber.

Awesome knife. Surprisingly lightweight

You are lucky to have a nice nice shop nearby. Any in hand pics? I'm thinking this blade would be too small for my tastes.

It's just over 3". I like a bigger knife as well, but man I really love it. You can call Plaza Cutlery and they will ship you one. Yeah I do have some amazing knife shops local to me.
