Crafting a Grail: Phenn's Vallotton Pimping Journey

No clip. Steve won't even be drilling holes in the new scales. And hopefully the black cerakote obscures the holes in the bolsters. It's gonna be a sheath knife all the way!

I wonder if there is a way of blanking off the holes in the bolster ?
Maybe some anodised titanium pocket clip screws or even screws with some kind mosaic heads ?
Hope you don't mind me thinking out loud :)

So no luck on filling the clip holes. Josh wasn't confident that matching the surfaces after filling them was going to turn out. Especially since the final scales won't be in place when he'd be working on it.

But!

Here's an update with pictures (courtesy of Josh):

Cant make up my mind on the blade...it looks nice but so does the stock finish. But man, that handle is SICK!! :D

You might want to consider what someone else mentioned before.

Have someone weld up the stainless clip holes on the Bolsters. You would have to find someone who could weld SS. Since you are doing custom scales, just end up with one set of holes.

This knife like a lot of spyderco's suffers from Hole-Proliferation syndrome.

It's killer looking with the stock scales. Except for them freaking holes!

I'm the kinda guy who never switches the clips, I just carry em how they come.

Thanks man! Yeah the blade finish was a shot in the dark, and hard to picture in my head. I like it, I think, and I'm fairly certain the lacewood scales will bring it together nicely. Two "natural" finishes, and two "man-made" finishes.

I'm excited to see it all come together!

Yeah, I did have that thought. Josh, my guy who did the cerakote, offered to try to fill them, but we decided together that the welding and sanding necessary could potentially make the fit and finish really difficult given the two-part scales.

Maybe he can pull something out in the end, but for now I'm happy living with the holes.

I would definitely find someone who can weld SS. You wouldn't lose much, I would think that Cerakote job wasn't expensive, not too many parts there. I dislike the holes in mine, a lot.

Looking great Jed! Can't wait to get my hands on this one and dress it up further!

So Josh's figured out a way to deal with the clip holes. Hopefully I'll have some new pics up early next week.

Few teaser pictures (Courtesy of Josh and Steve). It's coming along!

Still needs the bolsters finished, then it'll head off to G2 for the sheath.

Looking very nice Jed and Steve! Boy, that baby's come a long way since it left my hands, nice work guys!
