Darnit unfortunately it looks like we drove the op away. Now we wiLl never get the particulars as to what we should look out for...

Unfortunately BudK doesn't sell silver weapons. Fortunately Clint over at Budk keeps pretty good tabs on market trends so if there is a need for silver coated blades you can bet he'll come up with a cheap Chinese knock off version. Unfortunately that might take some time. Fortunately werewolves are pretty rare in this neck of the woods. Bigfoot probably got them.

Well these aren't the mythical werewolves, they're upright intelligent dog-like apes or ape-like dogs and while they are quite resilient they aren't immortal, heard a story of one guy back in the mid-20th century encountered them a lot, even managed to kill one of them with a high powered rifle, no silver necessary but these things are very smart, not as smart as (some) humans but smarter than any known primate, capable of advanced problem solving and situation assessment, they even know what guns are, that's how they're able to stay hidden and still contribute to missing persons cases all across the country, they're known to stalk people living in isolation within their chosen territory until they find an opportune moment to make them disappear without leaving behind evidence, the same guy i was talking about earlier even said he came upon the houses of people he knew that had gone missing, nothing inside was touched, no signs of any struggle, only thing of note was that either the front or back door was wide open, I hope to never encounter one of these creatures and have no intention of looking to fight one but I have a property in my family that i intend to move onto that's out in the woods, not too far though I still have a couple of close by neighbors but still in the thick of it and I want every form of protection I can get short of fatal boobie traps since they're illegal, in case my gun fails for whatever reason, you all can laugh at me, I'll laugh too so i can pretend for a moment that I'm just being crazy and these things aren't real and that the woods are a safe place.

Okay obviously you believe in them. Is there any evidence that you can point us to? Like Bigfoot I have to think that if there were such things they would have their own YouTube channel by now, there are just too many people with too many cell phones and every one a video recorder.

They know how to avoid cameras for the most part, like i said these things are smart and know how to assess any situation in order to stay hidden and leave behind little evidence wherever they go, even less than Sasquatch since nobody looks for them and their footprints can more easily be mistaken for a bear, I think they can even physically see the range of a camera's view in order to avoid it, that's why Sasquatch have been reported investigating or even taking down trail cams but never getting in front of them and honestly is there any evidence that could be presented to a skeptic that won't just be passed off as a hoax, misidentification or inconclusive? Currently there's only eye witness accounts, folklore and Missing 411 reports that allude to its existence but they're way too wide spread and date too far back to be just another fake urban legend, there was even a town in Brazil that was haunted by a dogman and so many people encountered and reported it and a couple of people even attacked by it that the story even made it to the local news and the town leadership had to instigate a curfew to keep more people from being attacked by it yet the whole time nobody got it on film except for one guy that caught a very blurry photo of it, fortunately nobody was killed, there's also the famous Beast of Bray Road incident and the Land Between the Lakes story where an entire family including children were all found torn to shreds. There isn't really any convincing evidence for people that don't spend a lot of time in the woods and have never encountered anything like it before but I grew up surrounded by forests and while I never encountered anything supernatural I still felt something was watching and my family always told me stories of things that were out there and things they've seen, my mother who is Native South American even told me stories from her native rural homeland in Central America of witches cursing people and her tribe interacting with mermaids. Believe what you will, pass off this whole thing as just the ramblings of an insane idiot in fact i recommend it but I believe it's better safe than sorry, better to be wary of the unknown than to be swallowed by it like so many others have because they decided to ignore the risks.

Also, not much to do with Dogmen but i recommend watching the movie on Missing 411 available on YouTube to get a better understanding of how easily somebody can disappear in the woods.

You clearly need to invest in a fine blade from one of the Busse lines. Honestly with what it is you profess to face I would not trust my life to less (honestly the blades you enquired about at the start are garbage and what price do you put on life ??). Alternatively you could commission a blade made from Ti by Mecha Mecha at Mad Science Forge lightweight and strong for when you must flee then fight and flee some more.

So you need to arm yourself against something out there that you’ve never seen or encountered, is much smarter than you, has powers that you don’t have to stay undetected, leaves behind little no evidence of it’s presence, and has been taking out experienced back-country hunters, hikers and ripping families to shreds?

With all those risks and unknowns, you think a knife is going to protect you? According to your described attributes, wouldn’t the dogman know you’re carrying a weapon? They can see the invisible “range of a camera” but couldn’t see that you have a knife, or smell the metal from it? I think you’d be incapacitated before you had the chance to draw it, since you’d never see the attack coming.

Maybe we aren’t the right ones to ask about slaying mythical beasts, go for a swim and ask Ariel!

Hey, anything to make sure my chances aren't zero, I was more looking for a sword, not a knife and more as a weapon of last resort and yeah Dogmen are dangerous but they only act on prey that's easy or is worth the effort and all in all if I were to square up against a Dogman in close quarters, only chance of surviving is with a 10 or 12 gauge shotgun or a high caliber handgun, even they can't tank a blast from one of those so just smelling the amount of gunpowder in them should be enough of a deterrent but if I'm caught off guard or my gun fails I want something that will keep my chances of survival above zero. Also the man from my previous post did theorize that the Dogman snatched those missing people by drawing them outside with some commotion then grabbing them from the roof when they came outside. Though one thing I'm glad about is that these things aren't everywhere so chances are I may never encounter one but I want everything necessary to be able to survive one should it ever wander into my neck of the woods.

Like I said, I'm no blade expert and I don't really know where else to ask about it and don't know what a quality blade is like other than having a large price tag though you do have a point, better to invest in good metal later than waste money on something of mid quality that I can afford now, I'd get a katana but then I'd feel like a poser weeb so I think I'll stick to something less flashy like a long sword.

........ then I do believe Mad Science Forge (there is a sub-forum here on this very website) should be a starting point.
 
T TantoTonto if I go with this as a serious concern, a sword is still the wrong way to go. Sure, better reach than a knife but you aren't a trained swordsman. It takes some skill to use a sword, or really any blade properly. What you want is as much reach as you can get. Cold Steel makes Spears. I'd suggest that. Not a big learning curve there. Point it and either thrust or set to receive a charge.
 
Last time I camped, it was in the Appalachian Mountains on the Ohio River cut out clearing in the middle of nowhere. We didn't get anything supernatural, but we did get the camp invaded by coyotes. Me and another guy slept through them sniffing around. His dad was awake peeping out the tent with his old 44 magnum. Luckily they moved along. There were a bunch of them apparently.
