When I check the tracking on the USPS site, the tracking number shows up as being dropped off at the post office on 9/06 at 9:14am. That's right, they entered the number while I was there! I've never received a package that didn't have the number in the system, but I have had the package for over a day before it showed as being delivered. USPS has always been good for me.

When I send packages out in the mail I do so at the end of the day at my work. We have a buisness mail pick up at 5pm and the mail goes right to a sorting facility and it's on it's way. They usually don't scan them in until the are out for delivery. When you bring your mail to the local PO they usually scan them on arrival, this isn't the case with a buisness pick up. The mail driver just picks up the mail for like 3 diff buildings and brings them right to the facility where they are sorted and routed to it's destination.

Code 3 and GMan, my word is my bond so you have nothing to worry about on this end. Fullolead, just so you know...it's in a manila envelope, sealed with packing tape, lined in the inside with bubble wrap and has my company's name on it for the return address. Just in case you tossed it off to the side thinking it was junk mail!:D

Regarding USPS tracking numbers ... late afternoon last Tuesday, 9/2/03, I ordered a knife from a dealer in Illinois, who sent it Priority Mail. On Wednesday, USPS online tracking was reporting the following message:

"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on September 03, 2003 to expect your package for mailing. Status is updated every evening. Please check again later."

Thursday morning ... same message.

Friday morning ... same message. And the knife was there at my PO Box when I dropped by around 11 AM.

I think it's safe to say that USPS tracking isn't perfect.

Also FWIW ... I have a fair amount of business with companies and agencies on the east coast, and have experienced a lot of delays with mail delivery from there since 9/11/01.

Sadly, it's the potential for misunderstandings (which I hope this is) that has made me shy away from buying/trading with individuals. The off-chance of getting ripped off by someone doesn't concern me nearly as much as there being a misunderstanding, leading to two nice, honest people being at odds over a deal (thus my deciding to buy a new BK9 to cannibalize for a project, rather than trying to save a few bucks buying a used one from someone here on BFC.)

Fulloflead, I do hope your knife arrives in the next couple days.

The easiest way to make sure your package is scanned, is to watch them do it. Sometimes, particularly when there is a line, the clerk will put the postage and DC stickers on and then set the package aside. They intend to scan them later when things slack off. I simply ask them to scan it in front of me and if they look crappy I just smile and say that it makes me feel better.

Works for me and eliminates the chance of a missed scan when they are in a hurry to make a dispatch or something.

As an online retailer, we have shipped literally hundreds of packages using USPS priority mail. It is our experience that the tracking provided with this service is very sporatic. On many occasions the item is delivered before the number even appears in their system. As other posters have said, I think it has a lot to do with the individual post offices that the packages goes through. We have also noticed that the delivery time for priority mail varies widely. Although they advertise 2-3 day deivery we have seen times vary from 1 day to 2 weeks - even to similar locations. I hope the item eventually shows up. It's too bad you guys didn't discuss insurance. From our perspective all items that a customer purchases from us automatically include insurance in the shipping price. We wouldn't dream of shipping an item that gets lost in the mail and then asking the customer to split the loss with us. Just our two cents. Hope the issue gets resolved without further incident. Good Luck.

Personally, I think it takes a big set of B***s to even suggest the buyer shares in a loss, unless of course the buyer refuses insurance. The seller is always 100% resposible otherwise for the buyer receiving the item.If you choose to not send via insurance, return receipt and any other protections available by a shipper, than it is your responsibility alone to make a full refund."80.00 shipped" is exactly what it means unless otherwise noted. The fact the discussion never took place about insurance is no ones problem in this situation but the sellers.I think perhaps there might have been a premature post here, but then the only one really getting bent out of hand is crazy nicky here.In fact if I was in the same scenerio
I might be concerned with the e-mails I received from a guy asking me to "pay half if it doesn't show up",complaining he already took a "beating" on a "120.00" knife, and then starts accusing me of possibly not being on the up and up when my tracking number doesn't even work?
Crazy nicky, you may actually be living up to your handle, how we handle ourselves when there is a problem or potential problem is when it really counts.Sorry,if this sounds unfair or harsh,it is just my perception and opinion based on what has been presented here.Good Luck to both of you.

I agree with knivesusa,USPS can be sporatic. This obviously would be most noticable with a high volume of shipping.I use USPS priority regularly hundreds of times over the past few years. The longest it took was 14 days.Average priority shipping time 2-3 days.I have on occasion actually received a package next day with priority.Delivery Confirmation sometimes was almost as good as UPS tracking, most of the time said it was received for shipping or was enroute from drop off location and then when delivered would be updated.Othertimes I would have the package before the website even noted acceptance of the package.Delivery confirmation should not be confused with a tracking number. If you want a step by step play of the items location through out it's journey then ship via UPS,Fed-X etc.

You people act like I'm some f*cking criminal for asking him to split the cost! I mean like jesus christ...I'm just a 24 year old with not a lot of money and an expensive hobbie. why don't you just shoot me for "asking" this guy a simple question! He didn't want to that...so fine, he's gonna get the f*cking $80 if he doesn't get the knife and that's that! There should be no reason for anyone else to comment on my actions because everything is clear cut and in black and white for all to see!

You people act as if I'm some knife dealer or knife store online that can afford to take a $100 loss like it's nothing! He seemed like a nice guy so I asked him if he wouldn't mind that...I didn't make any demands, I just asked! And how am I the one making the big stink in this situation??!! I'm not the one that came on this board to bitch about this guy not wanting to split the cost and start saying that he got the knife and how he is a liar that said he didn't!

This is...the last transaction I will ever make on this forum. Besides the pissing and moaning from the peanut gallery in this post, I especially hate the cheap bastards who try to chew people down to get something for nothing and then have the balls to make ridiculous trades. Though, this isn't the case with a lot of the people on here!I have had MANY smooth as silk transactions that I was more than pleased with. This one on the other hand...I had a bad feeling from the get go. I only went through with this trade because I needed some money asap. That's why I thought something might of been up when he said he still didn't get it. I wasn't comfortable from the start and I wasn't happy about the price it sold for...so shoot me! I admit I was wrong for assuming that he wasn't on the up and up at first...and I apologize. So now should I be hung out dry on the forums...like I have been for two days?!?!?!

First of all, take a deep breath.
You are 24.
You do have an expensive hobby.
No one is comfortable with taking an $80 hit.
I am still a newbie here when it comes to making trades over the net. I frequently send first and wait until the other party is satifsied before I recieve what I am waiting for. At least I can walk away from each transaction knowing that I did everything that I could to make the deal right.
I think people are asking you if your word as a man is worth $80.
This thread will fall down the page and disappear after a while. Your conduct will be more memorable.
While you lose something in this transaction, you will have other deals down the road that bring it into balance in the larger picture.

And hell, who knows. It may work out yet anyway.

I know...but haven't I already made it clear that I was going to make right by this guy? And I'm not taking just an $80 hit...I'm taking a lashing on here that has forever damaged my reputation on the forums! So why would I even bother to do another transaction on here again? Why!? For a headache???)I have had more luck on eBay anyway...Besides, I'm taking $120 hit all together...all I asked for when I listed the knife was $100 shipped. Then my email is flooded with people with ridiculous trade offers like, "How about my NIB Schrade and a used set of Ginsu Knives for it? But that's all I'll do for that knife!" (It's like pullllllleeeeassseee...get a clue you maggot and who the f*ck said I wanted any trades?!?!?! That's why it was in the "For Sale" forum...because it was FOR SALE! Period.)

Then you got the people who's lives are all about low balling because they are cheap pricks... "How about $70 shipped? (Buddy, this knife was in my pocket like twice and never cut anything!)Then when you ask them for say like $85 they're like "Whoa now, that's a little tooooo pricey for that particular knife!". Try and find a deal like that anywhere else on the internet! Anyone should be more than happy paying $100 shipped as it is... And that is STILL the best price I have EVER seen ANYWHERE for a new Emerson Mini Commander! You're essentially paying $95 for the knife...try and beat that with a wiffle ball bat!

I bet if Ernest Emerson walked in the room and asked if anyone wanted to buy that knife, people would line up, hand $150 and break out the chapstick to suck him off. I like a lot of you guys on here... but I'm done with selling to people...strictly trades...if anything! I have always been a man of my word on here and to see people that have never even dealt with me before, pass judgement on me and question my intentions like I'm some piece of sh!t, are dead f*cking wrong! Period.

And another thing to the clowns who say stuff like..."This guy has some serious balls to ask to split the cost!"...ya buddy I do have some BIG balls? Wanna see them? Darn maggot!:D

Note: I have edited-out the bad language for Nicky..:D.

Nicky, don't bother with the smilie after calling someone a darn maggot.

...And I've also edited-out Keith's bad language, too.

...Come-on guys...This ISN'T "Whine & Cheese"!!..

i dont know, i think everybody needs a valium and a shot of scotch.

FWIW, i have shipped tons of stuff USPS priority confirmation, and also rec'd lotsa stuff via the same, and the # USPS gives you is not a reliable indicator of if the package is in the system/delivered/etc, have tried it a number of times, and rec'ved the package before it will show up, actually, probably in my experience the majority of times it doesnt work right, i can only remember a few times it did.

i recently shipped a knife to the west coast from tx, delivery/confirmation USPS, took 12 days. hopefully the knife will arrive next week and all will be well and all will regret the mudslingin'

another time shipped a MT SOCOM IIRC, and after 2 weeks no knife arrives, i could tell the guy was getting worried. i called USPS and IIRC they couldnt do anything for 30 days, suggested i call the person and have them check w/the PO and see if it was at that end (they didnt seem to be able to even track it that far, this is after 2 wks now) well, the postman had been by w/it and no one was home, he left a slip "you have package/etc" and it blew away or something, it had been at the PO for about a wk IIRC, does this pertain to the current problem? no but it shows that $hit happens

so i can see one side. but when ya ship w/no insurance the seller is responsible if lost/etc, and ya have said ya would send the guy his $$, which is the right thing to do, consider it an expensive lesson and go on w/life. and i would be happy to swap w/either of ya, both of ya seem like good folks just a bad buncha circumstances imho, i dont think anyone was out to rip anyone off,i saw that EKI for sale and it woulda been a great deal at $80, i must say,

hope all ends up well

greg

Keith, what, you didn't think the smilie added a lil bit if Eminem flavor to the post? I still call 'em like I see 'em and with 110% accuracy!

Nicky, I think most of this thread has been people backing you up with telling how the USPS is indeed sporadic. The people who are blasting you are few, and seem to be in the minority in this thread. In my opinion you were on track to come out looking pretty good despite wolfmans ill-fated attempt to dig up some old outdated thread.

Honest though you may be, I think many people will say to hell with dealing with you since you make blanket statements covering "you people" and so on and flying into a rage whenever somebody says something you dont like.

Try reading the entire thread again...you are making yourself look like a schmuck.

Richard, I don't care if people will never deal with me again! I don't plan on dealing with people on here anymore anyway. Didn't I make that clear? Hell I just bought a Strider SNG so I have no use for any other knives anymore! lol ;)

Richard, you are right about me using "you people" I should have been more clear on that and I do apologize to any who took my side that was offended. My rants were intended for the people who basically talk all the crap.

Sorry Dann, I was just referring to the original post. Next I will edit it first. I do however think you should have at least edited it to "gosh darn".

Edited to add

Nicky, I have always thought that certain smilies looked out of place after an insult. It looks like you are insulting them, but don't want to take the chance on pissing everybody off, so you put the smilie there so that people will think that you might be just joking around.

Keith, I'm not trying to piss off anyone but the people with thier negative comments about me. You know...I'm sorry...I made a mistake in asking this guy if he wouldn't mind. I fully admit it...but to keep it going like I'm a POS is ridiculous. I hate having my intentions questions especially when I in fact mailed this out to this guy. The smilie was a sarcastic addition to the insult...but that was intended to the people who asked about my balls! lol
