Crazy these cost about the same

I'm an owner of many of these knives being mentioned here (ZT's, Emersons and CRK's). I personally wouldn't pay Emerson-level pricing for a ZT, I just don't get the enjoyment factor out of ZT ownership that I do with Emersons. That is not a comment directed at the intrinsic value of the two knives, but for me an Emerson brings me considerably more joy than a ZT, which in a nutshell is why I am a knife zealot.

Wow that's actually cool of you to say, because I think many would say the opposite, but you are honest and say your enjoyment trumps factors that are usually pointed out.

IIRC too you also had a time where you weren't fond of Emerson? By no means calling you out, and I might be confusing you for another user, but point is we are allowed to change how we feel about a knife and/or maker.

No, you must be confusing me with another... Closest I can come to that sentiment was me taking issue at one time with a response from Emerson to a specific situation that turned out to be a lot of forum posting misinterpretation that was clarified by all parties involved. That was several years back, and was a minor day or two "dust up". I've had a bunch of Emersons over the years and still have quite a few - doubt I'd ever have less than a half dozen essential EKI's. My trusty CQC-10bts is easily my most trusted and used knife of all time. Lately the CRK bug has been pretty aggressive of my interests though.

My bad I was referring to this thread from last year http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...son-Replies-to-Emerson-Woes?highlight=Emerson Didn't realize where you stood with Emerson currently, you were pretty strong in your stance. Glad you're happy with Emerson again.

I'm not an Emerson fan -- I don't dislike them -- but the Rangemaster Sheepdog Collaboration is the first Emerson flipper, on bearings, and very smooth. It has three opening methods: the wave, the thumb disc, and the flipper. Other than that, it looks the same as every other standard Emerson, even though this will probably cost more. A YT fairly positive video review just went up this morning (it's the first I heard of it, but maybe it's been around a while):

Why did you start this thread then? I'm confused.

Open ended thread to see where it goes.

I consider myself dumb enough to pay basically the same price for things even though one is arguably made to lower standards with cheaper materials than the other, based solely on liking it as much(altho the Super 7 wasn't my thing once handled). I consider that crazy in the sense that if I ran my whole life like that I'd make some very poor investments.

BUT like I said I left what makes it crazy in the air to see where others would take it, and I think it has been a pretty cool discussion minus the few bashers that popped in.

I think we are all mature enough to enter the arena of ideas without much direction, although with all the questions of why I started this thread, I wonder if I may have been wrong.

It does amaze me too how butt hurt some folks on the inter web can get.

If a Manix 2 XL is around $100, then EKI's are overpriced. I have owned a few EKI's and the only one that almost resonated with me was the Mini 15 CE. The 7V was the worst cutter I have ever owned. Seriously, all but worthless.

I doubt anybody gives a damn. There's been plenty of threads trying to instigate arguments, not discussions, and ZT is a common target. If you've been here since 2008 you know that much better than I do.

Not 10 posts ago someone accused ZT of making 'knockoffs and clones', and it didn't sound like he was joking... I don't give a shit if you hate ZT. Tell the world you think they're crap. I like them fine, but they're far from my favorite maker, and they're definitely ripe for criticism on some points. But making a comment like that is below the belt, IMO... lame troll garbage designed to stir the pot, and add nothing of worth.

Case in point. I directed that comment to no one just a personal opinion of mine, and I think we can pull up ceaseless threads to prove my point, but rather than quietly disagreeing, you felt it necessary to chime in and throw the troll word out, and move it to a personal level.

I'm good with whatever you like or don't like. You do you I'll do me
