The hawks are amazing, but what is the story with that Hissatsu handle? A new model or a modification?

I'd normally be in for the poll hawk considering it to be more utilitarian although the spike would be calling to me.
Although I'm no expert I'd say that the thin profile of the poll and the angle of the handle in relation to the face of the poll would make it a bit clumsy if it was used to try to beat stakes into the ground in a camping type of scenario. It'd probably make a great breaching thumper but most likely a poor hammer, so, it's the spike for me. Looking forward to reviews from the rest of you before I decide ;P

Im thinking that if you don't like the sharpened portion on top of the spike t-hawk that you could easily modify the hammer poll t-hawk it to look like the rmj jenny wren. That way you would have a spike but no sharpened top.

As far as the poll, I also think it's a bit thin for camping chores, like driving tent stakes. Even so, I would not chop wood with that spiked version, nor my Jenny Wren. At some point that spike will be very close to puncturing your face, head, and neck area. The last thing I need is a severe head wound miles away from medical help. Plus, I already own the Winkler Camp Axe, it's 3/8" thick, has a poll, and a straight handle, perfect! For safety sake, the poll would be the better choice for guys wanting this as a camp or bushcraft tool, even if the poll was never used.
If I were to order one of these I'd be getting the spike, I had wanted a Storm Crow but "settled" for a Jenny Wren. Now that I have the JW, I love the small size and the straight handle, makes using either side feel right. I still like the curve of these handles on the new CRKT hawks. Curved handles will add power to the main edge, but take away from the ergos of the spike or poll.
These CRKT hawks have elements of my three favorite full tang hawks, I'm thinking about getting the spiked version even though I already own these....

Your three look superb, I really like the natural organic wood handles on Winkler hawks.
I went for the JW as it fits perfectly in my smallest pack, a great emergency hawk.
I think I'll check my Powerball ticket I bought today, it's up $130,000,000.00, maybe I'll win enough to get a few Winkler hawks. :p
I won Ten Thousand Nov. 2011.. received six thousand after taxes... and bought my Jenny Wren, paid my rent for several months with the remaining.

A certain website that had these for pre-order now has them in stock with no wait, just saying. :)

im more for a hammer pol hawk dont like or think the top edge would be safe to carry use but the hammer pol on these dont look much use to me eather narrow and thin looks nice but to me mot much use just my thoughts

Just ordered a Kangee, got it for $109 with free shipping. I don't guess I need it, but they seem like such a great value. Not saying it's going to be a "beater", but I can have some fun with it and keep my Jenny Wren for concealed carry. I had wanted a Storm Crow, this is pretty close, much cheaper, and it's available right now.

Got the same deal from Howes. Impossible to resist at that price. There were only 3 in stock when the offer went live so I'm assuming you and I claimed 2/3 of them!

Yep, it said 1 in stock when I placed my order. I'm going to get mine from the mailbox in just a bit, watching for the mailman!

Foxx, you have a nice hawk collection for sure.
The Kangee is such a good deal at 1/4 the Storm Crow and they come from the same father...but from a different mother.
These CRKT hawks are prob the best value entry-level and/or mid-range tier hawks. The only reason a potential hawk buyer would pass on them is if they wanted a short 10" or shorter hawk.

If anyone is interested, I could take some comparison pics of the JW vs. the Kangee. The Kangee is done well, especially for the price. But there are some differences in execution for sure.

JW has excellent grinds, under the beard and spike there are actual edges, sturdy but they are edges. The Kangee has a much thicker grind, and no edges under the spike and beard. Well, the beard has a thick "false" edge. I guess it's going to help with the can opener function, more so than no grind at all. The handle scales are much thicker than my JW, and the tang sticks out from the butt. I'm not sure yet, but that pommel may cause some discomfort during hard use.

For the price, it seems like a great hawk. When I get a chance to try it out, I'll find out if the heat treatment is good, and how the edges hold up.

Here's a pic of the handles, Kangee and Jenny Wren...
