Quick question. I just picked up a NOS CRKT Sebenza on that auction sight. I took a gamble because I thought the knife looked interesting and I haven't seen many of them. Is it collectable at all or mildly expensive paperweight? Thanks in advance

Never seen anything like it. Odds are it's using poor quality steel with a bad heat treat. It's good looking cause it's based on a beautiful knife, however I would see if you can return it. Your better off with a $50 dollar folder from a reputable place.

If it is a legit collab than I bet it's awesome. Really it comes down to how the steel stands up to use. On the other side though, if it's a fake, personally I wouldn't carry it. I don't like to compromise on my guns and knives.

There was an attempt by CRKT to make a budget version of the Sebenza for Chris Reeve Knives. This was back in the mid-90's I think. The knives never actually came to market but for some reason you see them pop up from time to time. I think they couldn't meet the quality standards of CRK.

In terms of over-paying, that's hard to say. $90 is certainly way too much to pay for CRKT "quality" fit and finish, AUS 6 steel and Zytel handles. You're looking at a $20 knife by the sum of parts. In terms of the value to a CRK collector...well, that's down to the individual collector.

I'm a collector and it'd be fun to have a knife like that for the history involved, but I can definitely say at $90 I'm walking away and not looking back.

Edit: I see a lot of info came up after I posted, lol.

Thanks guys. I rolled the dice, really never planned to use it..just thought it was different. I need to learn to use the search function better on this website [emoji35] I found some other pics on BF, weird seeing a Sebenza with plastic handles.

Welp, interesting bit of knife history you have. Look on the bright side I guess.

Judging by the pictures I saw when I typed CRKT Sebenza in google no there isn't a metal insert.

Whats going on here a plastic lockbar are yoose guys kiddin me?

Just watched a video and that is scary bad. There is a reason CRK couldn't stomach letting that go out.

I'll have to check youtube, I have not seen a video yet. Again, I really dont plan on using it. I figured it may just be an interesting knife to add to my small collection.

Props to Chris Reeve for actually stopping a collaboration because of the poor quality - if only this had happened with Boker Plus, they might have been forced to improve their fit and finish.
