CRKT Sebenza?

Well, in general it has been my experience that CRKT has knives made for them that are substandard in quality, materials, and often exhibit fit finish/QC issues. I also feel they are overpriced given their price point. I could see them releasing such a knife knowing full well it was a bad idea. I see CRK as almost the exact opposite and the fact that they would not let this knife enter the market makes perfect sense.

You don't give CRKT the respect they deserve. They have a variety of products that vary in "quality" depending upon model and price. They have given voice to more knife designers, new locks, new knife types, new riffs on old knives, then most other companies. They sell novelty cheaper knives up to higher end knife designer creations. For example, the M16 has been a perennial favorite of the military for many years and has proven itself during the last 17 year overseas "conflict". I own a Sebenza and a CRKT Eros, both Ti framelocks with designer cache, premium steel and perfect fit/finish. The Eros is as good as a sebenza but a lot riskier design that appeals to a smaller market. It's a lot cheaper too. Give em a break :)

Nope. I'm giving them the exact amount of credit due based on my opinion and it is also my opinion that you are giving them too much credit:thumbup:

I see that, especially with knives today but there was a point in the beginning where they filled a void with a decent knife and a reasonable price point. I had/still have the very first knife they made called the "MAC" COMMANDER which later became the Summit Series as a box set in the early 90s, a heavy duty knife in the spirit of the Buck 110, maybe more like the Buck 186 in zinc alloy. ;)

I've had some of their older stuff and it was markedly better. An apache in ats-34 was particularly good.

I remember years ago when these were announced, a lot of dealers were hot on them. They were going to be priced in a range to compete with the Spyderco zytel models and Cold Steel's Voyager line. Then you got the news that production was delayed, and then scrapped altogether. One wonders what would've happened if they only switched over to a metal grip, and raised the price point a bit.

I certainly wouldn't doubt that there are fakes out there. For years these were very hard to come by, and commanded a heavy collectors price on them, then a bunch of small batches started coming over Asia. I wonder if they were early stock that got left over, or if the tooling is still around and someone decided to make a few spurious runs of them.
