thanks pegsA small half-round will get inside your rakers just fine.

That's a beautiful old Craftsman, probably made by Disston. The end tooth was broken on purpose for the safety of the second bucker's fingers. I use a slim taper file for my rakers.
i'v been meaning to ask you guys, how do you file your rakers? I don't have a sawfiler's file, would a triangular file work? i'v been using a mill bastard since i started and i'm wondering if there's a better way
No affect. It's rare to find a western bucking saw with the end teeth complete. Sometimes the tip of the end tooth is filed flat or rounded, though usually just broken off. I have a few with intact end teeth, but they appear to be NOS and were probably never used in the field. I don't see the missing end tooth as often on one man saws, probably because they weren't double bucked as often, though that would be more likely to occur with a big one man.Interesting Trailtime- was that common practice? Does it adversely affect the saw’s performance?
I'm too busy, and not in town, to do a lot of running around buying this time of year. But sometimes a good opportunity comes up. I picked up this batch of Disston saws today. All from the same place, all owned by someones father, now gone, since new. They aren't NOS, but they're darn good condition!
One western handle to be had, and it's missing the rivet. It was part of the package as the helper handle for the one man, at great discount because it didn't fit. Maybe it never had one?
Anyway not yardsale price but I was happy to shell out $300 for the lot.

The 7-11 are both 8' but, slightly different as the years passed. Less ornate etching, a couple inches different length, different end teeth pattern. They've been swaged and filed, and used a few times at most.

The one man 514 has almost a pristine handle and hardware, along with the western handle.

I don't think the rakers were ever swaged on the 514, although it looks like a file pointed it up sometime, and there was dried wood on it.

All in all, a nice set of Disston saws for my collection!
Let me know if you want to part with one of the 8-footers.
The most common practice is to complete all of the work on the rakers before pointing and setting the cutters.this might seem like a dumb question but i'm having a brainfart right now, should i set my rakers before or after i set my teeth?
