non-CPM MagnaCut
No.Crucible does not have exclusive rights to make MagnaCut.
So if there's CPM MagnaCut from Crucible, then that means we could see CTS MagnaCut from Carpenter or M-MagnaCut from Bohler?
All these things already exist. Download the Knife Steel Composition app.Following that same logic, there's a slightly altered recipe for CPM-D2... Would we start seeing CTS-D2 and it would be the CPM version still?
Crucible has one location.I didn’t read through the entire thread to know if this was mentioned or not but I read elsewhere that only that one location is closing and all their other locations are still in good standing. Hopefully they don’t have to close that location either
Crucible does not have exclusive rights to make MagnaCut.
What?
The products would be sold by Niagara not by the steel company they are ordering from. So for products where Niagara wouldn't be able to obtain the Crucible trademark there would be a single new name. There would be enough consumer confusion without switching to multiple new names. So if there's CPM MagnaCut from Crucible, then that means we could see CTS MagnaCut from Carpenter or M-MagnaCut from Bohler?
I don't think the Crucible's specialty steel division faces much competition from China. In fact, they export a lot of steel to China, given that WE Knives almost exclusively uses CPM-20cv, and companies like Bestech and others use Magnacut, s90v, etc.. If we impose stiffer tariffs on Chinese steel, I would expect China to respond with their own tariffs, which might push those companies to switch to Bohler.Does anyone know does Crucible actually have a copyright on the term magnacut? Also not to bring politics into this but with all the talk of tariffs in upcoming trade negotiations, and with china being the leading competitor to US steel companies, Crucible looks like a much more viable prospect for purchase as the market potentially turns. Knife steel is a small component of their business. Other companies such as EQS that does powdered metal ingots for many high tech applications, could definitely duplicate the product but could they actually market it under the Magnacut name?
Yes.What?
To clarify:Yes.
It appears there has been some unauthorized sales of MagnaCut steel, specifically involving Besttech at the Blade Show.
- Distribution Policy: MagnaCut is not currently being sold to any distributors in Asia. Crucible confiscated some MagnaCut knives from Besttech at the Blade Show because they violated the MagnaCut trademark. The knives tested were confirmed to be made from genuine MagnaCut.
- Unknown Source: It is unclear how Besttech or others have obtained the MagnaCut.
- Communication with Distributors: Discussions have been held with authorized distributors to reinforce the rules, emphasizing that any violations could jeopardize their ability to sell MagnaCut in the future.
Larrin Was quoting your post about Crucible not owning the rights to "Magnacut." Apologize for any confusion.
You grind it very well, I might add!.I just grind steel
