No I'm not talking about how to hike longer and harder:D

I'm talking about what pain the meth makers are for hikers.

So you know, we all love match boxes right?? So a while back I get a few and go to find some strike anywhere matches. No stores have them. I go form store to store in the nearest town and ask every grocery, every hardware store and they all say "no" and look at me like they never heard of them :confused:

So I go home and tell my wife about this and she said "Honey, don't you know the meth makers use them? I went to a workshop on it with the State Police and that is one of the things they use"

Great. So I have a beard, long hair and I've been going form store to store asking for strike anywhere matches:(

So I start researching what stuff they use. Well right off there's a picture of a bottle of HEET. :thumbdn::grumpy:

I used to buy quarts of "denatured alcohol" in the local hardware store. No wonder I can't find them anymore!!

So the only source is HEET at an auto parts store for my alcohol stove, and what will THEY think when I go in there in SUMMER and buy like 10 bottles of the fuel line antifreeze:eek:

I did pass by a hardware store about 30 miles from my town and found a quart of the alcohol, that will probably last me like 3 weekend trips but I guess this winter I need to stock up so I don't wind up on some list for buying it in the summer:rolleyes:

To make matters worse I've read in the paper of people busted for having the chemicals. So I have heet, some strike anywhere matches that a fellow forumite felt pity and sent me, acetone for dissolving epoxy on knife scales, heet and Coleman fuel. Scarey. Hoping the fact that I don't own any lab ware would help me plus I never use cold medicine. I have heard of people who got their houses searched just because they bought too much cold medicine which people have to sign for:eek:

Anyway thanks criminals for crimping my style (middle finger emoticon)

I think I got denatured alcohol at Home Depot in a gallon can for legitimate purposes. I don't use heet anymore since we in CO have alcohol in our gas whether we like it or not. I do miss the matches, though....

And nothing works as good a sudafed/actifed for my colds. That really pisses me off.
 
I used to run a muzzleloading shop for a friend. We had a powder magazine with several thousand pounds of black powder of all grades in it, and shipped it all over the continental U.S. via UPS. We sold cannon fuse and powder to CW reenactments too. I wonder if that shop is still there?
 
That was great. Laughed out loud picturing you go store to store looking for matches.

You can make drugs out of anything...so I guess the next step is no do-it yourself anything. You will need a building permit for glue, or even gaining enterance to a hardware/auto parts store. All tinkering, building, modifications, and general maintnance will need to be done by a licensed professional for 600 bucks an hour. That way we wont be tempted to whip up a batch after we change our oil...
 
That's odd, I actually got carded for buying HEET, now I know why. :(

I've been looking for a place to get methanol cheaper, I like using my alcohol stove for my perculator since we got a flat top electric stove, works faster since my coffee pot doesn't have a flat bottom.

Hmmm......

If you own any Nalgene, then you do own lab ware!

If your PSK has those neat little plastic vials, you do own lab ware!

Jeez, I'd better hand myself in right now, because I just bought 5ml and 25ml plastic vials with lids, from a lab ware supply store to use in my PSK's!
 
Don;t forget you actually searched the web for supplies for making meth. That isn;t going to look good at your trial.
 
i wouldn't be joking about this topic, the clamp downs on the bulk materials needed for meth production is already well in effect and will get worse. Stockpiling Methyl hydrate, Acetones, matches etc for camping use, shop use, to avoid these hassles is also risky.
 
If I go down, im taking all of you with me. Ill plea bargin and name you guys as my suppliers!

I am not real worried about the alcohol for my stoves. I have the materials and know how to make my own. ;) Chris

Now that I think about it they still sell Acetone, wood alcohol and other stuff by the gallon at Home Depot.
Yeah I understand that they are cracking down on local suppliers. But I also know that over the past few years they have seriously knocked back the local production to the point where the Cartels can make money by trafficking it along with their other nefarious goods.

I will have to find the article but the Cartels have the money and the resources to order the supplies in tanker trucks and mix them in Mexico and Canada. There was one such article I read not too long ago about the Canadians stumbling upon a abandoned manufacturing plant that was several thousand square feet and totally buried underground with thousand gallon tanks designed to hold chemicals for meth.
In the same article it told how the Chinese are selling to "Mexico" anything they wish in just about any quantity they want.
Need cold medicine or the active ingredient? If you have the money why not just order a shipping container of the stuff... or rather 5-10 containers?

Once the LEO's bust the local guys it becomes profitable to all the others to ship the stuff in.
Its the way free markets work. And unfortunately Mafia's and Cartels understand free markets better than governments.
 
I've worried at times that I might run across a backwoods lab, but it hasn't happened... yet. It is shocking to me to see how many times a year labs are busted in this rural Tennessee county though.
