The newest member of my little Peanut family arrived today.

Thats a nice one Oldman. What does the goldish shield say ?

Nuts keep falling from the trees.... This one fell in my yard. (Case 2010 Antique Bone)

Yes I could, It would be very simple to do.

But honestly, I'm not sure you'd gain much. Easy opens are usually single blade knives, or dual blades with the small blade much shorter to allow room for it. But in this case(no pun intended), the pen blade is pretty high along the back of the clip, and even with a notch cut, I don't know if you could grip the clip blade enough with the pen in the way... You wouldn't really be able to pinch it much.. Am I making any sense?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I just wanna make sure your sure before we commit to cutting into that stag ;)

But if your sure you want to try it, shoot me an message here or an e-mail, and I'll give ya my address, and we can hash out details like notch radius, depth, location etc.. :)

Actually, I'm curious now...
I've been trying to pinch open a 'nut, and I think it'd work out with a notch. Less of an actual "pinch", more of a "press sideways and drag" till it clears the pen, then pinch and open, but I think it should work..

Hmm. I think I'll put one of my Rough Rider 'nuts to the grinder tonight and see how it works out.

(A side note aimed @ the Mods/Admins; Since I currently don't have Maker/Craftsman status here at BF, I feel the need to clarify that I will Not be charging anything for doing this. I'm just happy to be able to help out a fellow legume owner. :) )[/QUOTE]

SO, I'm feverishly waiting to hear from Case in regards to my little 'nut, but so far nothing. I'm sure it's because of the holidays. The other day however, I ALMOST picked up a yellow handled one in Cabelas. ALMOST. I did pick one up for my 11 year old son, and he will be receiving it for Christmas along with a few handkerchiefs, and a pocket flashlight. A note will top it all off about broaching manhood, and the things expected of a man. Time to start teaching him how to be one. I'm looking forward to it. He with his new yeller, and I with my Chestnut, both in CV (I'm using the patina as a metaphor for life, and the thoughtful care you need to put into things that you rely on in life... though he doesn't know it yet).

Then, in a moment of weakness I found myself bidding on and winning a Queen Peanut from said auction site for a SONG. Looks like I'll have one in my hands in a few days again. I can't wait!

Just figured I'd give you all the updates, since i sent mine off. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming :D

Thanks Robb! I had to go check after I read your reply and you're right. It's got more of a "curve" than my others.

Just got this one today.

That's a beauty Bill! Looks like the covers need a little 12000 grit love to make 'em shine!

On a completely different note, does anyone know what year Case moved the nail nick? I love where the old ones are!

Usually carry a hard use/beater/work folder most days, but the peanut always rides in the coin pocket every single day!

Hey, I never noticed that before! Interesting!

Just did a little digging, on the 'bay right now is a '86 with it toward the pivot, but a '96 model with it further out, under the back center "point"... so, lat 80s or early 90s..

I wonder if it changed with the tang stamp, or independant of it.

Will have to do some more research.. :)

I just scored twin brothers. Two 1986 single blade Stags. They both have the nail nick towards the pivot.

After having used an Old Timer Mighty Mite and Minute Man and liking the size, it was time for for a peanut. This one is caramel bone. I came okay sharp so that will be fixed soon. So far I like it!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I'll go ahead anyway.

Can anyone tell me how a peanut compares to a GEC #22 Magnum? If anyone has both, can you possibly post a picture of them together?

It seems that the #22 is a little shorter than a peanut but looks like it has a little more body to it, maybe a little fuller in the hand. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the comparison.

OK these are not the best, had to take the photos in the bathroom because of low light here. As you can see they are very close in length, but differ quite a bit in width. The peanut is more slender/elegant feeling. The clip on the peanut is slightly longer (maybe 1/16") and thinner. The pens are about identical in length, with the 22 being a little more robust. All in all they are both great little knives, with the Magnum being the beefier of the two. I personally like that the secondary is in front of the primary on the 22, so both nicks are on the mark side. Hope that helps...
