Cult of the peanut , members

So a couple of admissions here...

First, I don't own a peanut. Not one. And second, I haven't really given much thought to getting one. I have a Case pen knife, which I know is pretty similar but with the blades at opposite ends, and I like it just fine. And I've admired some nice examples of the 'nut here in this thread and elsewhere on this forum, but I never thought, "You know, I should get me one." Until today. We were doing some last minute Christmas shopping at a large outdoor retailer named after a particular species of fresh-water fish, and I was browsing their selection of Case knives, and for some reason, this time, the peanuts really caught my eye. Something about the shape? I don't know. But suddenly, I wanted one.

However, I practiced restraint, and for now, I still do not own a peanut. Actually, the only CV model they had was the yellow delrin, and I'd prefer something in bone, probably the chestnut, so I didn't get one... for now. I'd say that some time shortly after the holidays, I'll probably become an official member of the cult. I'm looking forward to it. :D

While I love jigged bone on a pocket knife..... that Ol Yeller is just a classic, especially when paired with patina'd CV steel!

I have to agree with Woodrow, a yella 'nut with a nice patina on the blades is a study in classic looks. Kind of like a two tone '57 Chevy, or a nice old Smith and Wesson revolver with the blue worn a little silvery around the edges and the walnut grips a bit smoothed from years of use. Or that old dented and blackened coffee pot that has been on uncounted fishing and camping trips, but the coffee out of it on a chilly morning by the side of a lake with woodsmoke in the air, tastes better than any electric brewed stuff.

I don't dislike the yellow. In fact, the pen knife I have is yellow with CV, which is part of the reason I think I'll go with something different for my first 'nut.

You're fine. I use a Small Stockman and they let me in.

I do have to sit in the back of the buss.

You can't have everything.

Right? I skimmed a couple (dozen) pages for pictures and am looking at some pen knives now... I don't know if I'm down with the Peanut yet. I think I'd have to hold one in-hand.

Just man up dude...grab your peanut and show it who's boss hahahaha

I have thought of starting a pen-knife thread, but I know it would reach page 3 on day 1.

Why not go for it?

I always thought that the small pen knife and the small jack had sort of a cousins relationship. Both are small two bladed pocket knives that seem to appeal to more minimalist people. Both had pretty much the same qualities of small but effective, but not taking up much real estate in the pocket, and being very unobtrusive. There seems to be a kind of distant kinship, or mission similarity between a peanut and a Buck 309 companion. They each will be carried by similar people.

Kind of like there's people going down the road in large jacked up pickup trucks, but also lot os people going down the road in Honda Civic's and Toyota Corolla's.

Well, why not is right. I'll try to restrict it to one blade or tool at each end, though in my secret heart of hearts I consider a small double end multiblade to be a penknife also.

Yeah, don't forget that to the great unwashed masses of humanity that are not knife nuts, any small slip joint is often labeled a "pen knife" the same way any large lock blades in the 1970's was referred to as a "Buck knife." :)
