Cult of the peanut , members

Yeah, don't forget that to the great unwashed masses of humanity that are not knife nuts, any small slip joint is often labeled a "pen knife" the same way any large lock blades in the 1970's was referred to as a "Buck knife." :)

That's nonsense. I used my pen knife to sharpen a pen.

Bad, bad idea.

Thanks, Jackknife, the penknife thread is getting much more interest than I expected.
By the way, I greatly admire the tolerance and civility that prevails in this thread. And among cultists, yet!

Hey, the little guys have to stick together!
:D

Edit to add; My huge bias to peanuts is solely because of my dad's loyalty to the one he carried. If the old man had carried a pen knife, I would probably be a penknife addict. I have always had a very soft spot in my heart for the pen, and the one knife I will admit that I regret trading off was my old Boker 240. It was a very nice pen, with a 3 1/8 or so closed length, and it was a great little knife. Then there's the Victorinox pocket pal. A great penknife.

If there has to b any alliance in the pocket knife world, it would have to be the small jack named after a legume, and the penknife.

I have had this for almost three years and there has been less than a handful of days it has not been in my right front pocket. At 1/2 an ounce, it just is not there until ya need it. ;)

This is hogwash...I have a few stores around me that carry Case and I went on a hunting spree to track down a CV Peanut on Saturday. Not a single store near me carries anything but the brown delrin SS peanut.

Not a single store near me carries anything but the brown delrin SS peanut. So wanting a peanut in CV will just be a dream of mine until one of these places gets one in. I asked if they could order one for me and they said that they just get what the distributor sends them. Lame! I really want a CV peanut now...Bad enough that I could give a body part for one.

That sucks maybe try the flea markets and gun shows

If we had any of those I would do so. This place is pretty uneventful where I live aside from celebrating the Cornish traditions.

Order it yourself from the Case store in Lebanon MO. They have the Yellow Delrin CV version in stock and you will have it in just a few days. They may also have other CV versions in stock too.

MY PEANUT FINALLY CAME BACK!!!

I found it in the mailbox yesterday, promptly popped it in my pocket (though that weird this isn't enough knife feeling is back), put my Whittler in the box and have gone about my day. This is day 2 now revisited, and I'm getting back into the swing of things. Something different is happening this time though. I'm finding it uncomfortable to hold the teeny handle for any length of time. Yesterday I was preparing roasted fingerling potatoes with dinner, and it was a real CHORE to use the 'nut to slice them all. Caused more than a little bit of hand fatigue. Maybe it's just because I'm out of practice. I'll have to see. I DEFINITELY missed that razor tipped clip blade though!

If the handle thing doesn't get any better, I may have to rethink membership, or make the 'nut #2 carry. Then again, that CV Swayback Jack might be just right... if only I could find one.

There is nothing wrong with carrying another knife with your peanut. I carry an ebony Case Bose Tribal Spear with my peanut.

However, I've noticed that most of my work is done with the peanut.

MY PEANUT FINALLY CAME BACK!!!

Did Case address the issues, and what exactly did they do to fix your Peanut ?

I sent it in because the first ¼" of the blade (right at the tip) was hitting the back spring every time I closed the knife. It was unacceptable because of all the parts of that small blade i use, the tip gets the most. besides the fact that there isn't much blade there to begin with! lol. They replaced the knife with a new one, and someone must have been pretty particular with it, because this one is FLAWLESS. The color os good, no spaces, blades are pretty close to centered, and not a bit of it hitting the back spring, even with a forceful close. The jigging is even smoothed a bit, which is something I actually love. Nice crags with smooth tops. Love it. I'll post a pic as soon as I have some decent light here!

While the Peanut is a great little knife, and I carry mine pretty regularly, I would not want to do EVERYTHING with it. For example, cutting up 'taters in the kitchen. I have kitchen knives that are right there and much better suited to the task. I think the only time I ever carried a Peanut as my only knife was when I got my very first one a few years ago and carried it for about a week or so.

It makes a great companion for my Victorinox Alox Cadet, by giving me a pointy clip blade for when a piercing cut is needed, and a small but sturdy pen blade for small jobs or small spaces.

But hey - you don't HAVE to own one. Good little tool and all, but not necessarily ideal for everyone. Just remember to turn in your robes and indoctrination materials when you leave the Cult compound.

Wow!!! That's awesome right there. What's the pull? I've only ever owned 1 Case Peanut, but it is a nailbreaker and left a bad taste in my mouth. If I could find a single blade without a hard pull, I'd easily be converted :)

I just did a search for Rogers single blade peanut and came up with nothing. Where can I find him??

Glad your Peanut problem was handled to your satisfaction. It's a near-ideal #2 knife. Mine rides in the watch pocket and my primary kife rides in the RFP. The Peanut gets lots of use.

I now officially have a saved eBay search for a Case Damascus Peanut.

Thanks, guys.

Bunch of enablers, showing me things I didn't even need to know I needed :)

That's interesting to me, because my dad carried nothing but flat oval penknives, and I had no interest in them at all. Too simple and practical, perhaps.
It's possible that Dad's grandpa proclaimed the flat oval pen to be the only knife for the city; that would have settled the question forever for Dad. (GGpa was a "most interesting man in the world" kind of guy.)
