And some obligatory knife content...

Awseome pic Ben. Interesting fact on the average height of WWII American soldiers, I would not have guessed that. I do know people are taller today than they were in say the 1800's, but didn't know it was this recent.

Do we know that peanuts and pens were more popular in the 1940s than stockmans and scout/utilities?

I don't know about peanuts in particular, but growing up in the post WW2 era, I remember that every man who had ants on had a pocket knife in there someplace. And 98% of the time it was a small to blade jack of some kind. Teardrop, dogleg, serpentine. Size was almost a universal 2 7/8th to 3 1/8 closed. The local five and dime and drug stores had cardboard stand up displays of little keychain size jacks with cracked ice scales for a very low price. The two blade little jack or pen was the universal knife of the 1940's and 50's. The few exceptions I saw were men home from the war carrying whatever pocket knife they got from Uncle Sam. My Uncle Charlie carried a TL-29 almost forever, my Uncle Sony carried the issue scout knife from his service. Stockmen and trappers were rare when compared to the little two blade jacks that were sold everywhere.

All the advertising knives were the two blade keychain size jacks. Everything from Purina Feed to Timken bearings and car brands where advertised by these little knives. Most people seemed to want a pocket knife small enough that it could be totally forgotten about until you needed it. Almost an after thought. I will never forget what my dad said when I questioned him about his choice of knife, and why so many people liked a smaller knife. He told me that a pocket knife is something that is carried a lot, but used little once in a while. I didn't always agree with my dad, but he did make sense when I thought about what he said. Also his sage advise of; "It doesn't have to be big, just sharp." sticks with me. After my big experiment with carrying a Victorinox classic, I had to agree with him.

After Buck came out with the 110, everything changed.

I have to admit I don't remember the 40s or much of the 50s. It was stockmans I drooled over in the 60s, until I got my fixed-blade fixation.

Well, I have been hemming and hawing about it enough. I am sending Narsil, the peanut of Carl, to Case for some RnR. When I get it back I will receive Anduril. I've sent Sebenzas, I've sent my SNG, I've sent my Tribal Spear in, all for warranty work or repairs. I've never had a lump in m throat like I have for this one. I was an idiot, and let my knife go through the washer, along with my Maratac AAA. Stupidity knows no bounds, but I've printed off the repair ticket, and stressed that they should leave the edge alone.

I feel like I have to hand over the honor of the High Muckba to a stand in while my sword has gone back to the elven smiths over the mountain.

Wow, I can't imagine how family or friends would feel if they read this. I feel like I'm sending this little knife on a journey. This must be how Gandalf felt, putting all of the weight in the world on a small hobbit.

Except peanuts are more like Jack Russells than hobbits.

I need some coffee...

Maybe a substitute peanut to carry, while I wait for Anduril to return, that I will later give away...

Hmmm... perhaps an emergency gathering of the Cult's council of elders is in order?

Good luck in the interim!

The other night I was dangerously close to buying a GEC #14 Lick Creek. It was screaming at me to click the checkout button. I hesitated and held my Yeller Peanut and suddenly all was calm and clear. The mighty Peanut needs no replacing. Period. Yes I still want that #14, but it will have to wait.

I've got a Peanut and a Trappernut already on the way, but I may need to make another order.

I wound up at that great Case site that's better than Case's actual site, and stumbled across this (apparently new) beauty:

Holy smokes! CHESTNUT CHECKERED BONE.

There's several new offerings. I saw in person the new ivory bone synthetic and it's a beauty as is the Army tan G10. Tempting. if any of these were offered in CV I would have caved already.

I could probably get my yeller nut in the mail in the next day or two if youre in sore need of a loaner. We cant have the grand high muckba absent.

Wow! That looks fantastic, Shawn; congrats!:thumbup:
The bolster treatment is super-classy, and the dye job is gratifying!
Yours seems more red than most of the others I've seen; both versions are sweet!

Thanks, GT! The red really shows up in the sunlight, and I'm a huge fan of the bolster treatments. I've got a Grey Sawcut Trappernut showing up soon, and I'm thinking about that Chestnut Checkered Bone, too. Too many things grabbing my eyes right now!

I'd love some new cover options for CV from Case.

I'm also crossing my fingers we'll see GEC do something a bit more Peanut-like.

But I have no reason to complain. This has been a near constant companion for 5 years.
