Cult of the peanut , members

This seemed an appropriate day to carry my first non-Case peanut. It's a Rough Ryder "Arctic Fox." It came super sharp and snappy. The blades are slightly different shapes than the Case 'nuts I usually carry, and it feels slightly more chunky. Nothing weird happened when I used it, though. It's a great knife, and a steal for the price.

Well Lads, been a while since I've had the pleasure of joining y'all here on the porch, but I'm once again toting the legume I got from our own good paulhilborn paulhilborn , some 7 years and some considerable months ago.

A change of life, job, and many an other thing have seen the peanut coming back to the front-and-center in my daily carry set... but lordy how she still WALTZES in my hand when I have to call her to arms!!

Also, bit of a nod to our "Patron Saint of Practicality and Wisdom", J jackknife : I wound up going back to the old legume after I landed a job at a machine shop ran by a lot from a more "old-school" level of machining! My direct boss is originally from P.A., started as a broom-pushing apprentice back in the 70's! To say I've been enjoying the work, much less what I get to learn?! An unfortunate understatement, to be sure!!

So, as odd as it feels to say within this particular context... thank you.

Thank you for opening my eyes to the multitude of paths I was summarily informed were even options for someone like me, that I could make this life of mine that much more satisfying and fulfilled by doing what I loved!

With this, I'll leave you with an "inspired" personal quote:

"It's not just the knife that needs to be sharp, pup... cuz if you're not sharper than the knife, it's gonna let ya know it."

Good patinas and smooth walk'n'talk to you all!!

I have become a fervent member of the cult. I started out with a black Case and then a white smooth bone Rough Ryder. I have now Rough Ryder white Micarta and a tortoise shell of which I am very partial. The peanut has now joined my EDC rotation along with my Bassett Trim Trio. All hail the cult of the Peanut!!!

Good to see ya back in The Cult!

I spent a lot of my adult life as a machinist, and it's amazing what you can do with a Bridgeport mill.

I'll leave you with another saying, this from the inspiration of my love of the legume, my dad.

"It doesn't have to be big, just sharp."

My trio. Case, Camillus #21, and Schrade 12OT. I think Camillus called the #21 a Pony Jack in the old catalogs.

Come Sunday, we'll have a new member. He's the son of one of my best friends...I was at his house the day he came home from the hospital, so I've known him most of his life. He's turning 30 and Super Bowl and Birthday are in alignment. He's a great father, husband and all-round good guy. This will make him a nice enough office knife.

Does anyone know if this Case I just acquired is the kind of celluloid that can cause issues? If so, it’s going to be a catch a release or something I store out in the open outside of my pelican knife storage cases. Was made in 1989. I assumed it was acrylic but I’m finding out its celluloid which scares me…

Update, I was able to cancel the order of the Christmas Tree Peanut above (I just don’t want to deal with any issue with celluloid). Instead, I purchased this yellow derlin one from the same individual which was of course a little cheaper. I had debated on a yellow earlier when I opted for the Christmas tree so it all worked out. The listing says Chrome Vanadium Steel, is this considered a little better than 420HC? What about compared to 1095?
