How do you care for your peanut? I am intrigued about how much people baby their little pocket knife (specially CV blades).

What do you do after cutting something like a lime or pealing an apple?

How often do you oil it?

How often do you sharpen or hone it?

Do you keep it loose in your pocket, a sheath or in your coin pocket?

How many peanuts have you lost in action?

My peanut rides in my coin pocket of my jeans next to my zippo everyday for over two years now, has done just about everything you need a knife for helps daily for cutting snacks down to size for my two year old, and other food prep, quick rinse or wipe, cuts string, use it for whittling and carving peach pits, it has become my favorite fishing knife, I even gut crappies with it, swish in the lake pop in pocket and clean it properly when I get home, I'm a tinkerer and do it yourself type and the peanuts thin blades lends itself to be very efficient and has aided in many home repairs, definitely not babied, I keep it clean and sharp and ready to use as I do with any knife or tool.

Pete

PS Primble, every time you show that nut I get a little weak, the color shield etc. done right

Enjoyed your narrative as well as the knife. I like the natural looking patina on your knife. The ole red nut has some age scars, light pitting on back springs, few light marks on the blades. If I could get the blades to mimic yours, I would be tempted to let her go down that road. I usually don't like the forced look, but, that natural looking patina is appealing to me.:)

Hmmm,

I fish all the time - maybe I should make ole red my fishing knife.:D

That's what red bone should look like. Just gorgeous.

Here's a peanut that I customized as a gift for my brother's birthday. I used some of my homemade composite and I got the idea to inlay a mosaic pin, and I think it turned out well. I never really had an appreciation for the nut until I made this one, now I want to order a few more to customize for myself!

Beautiful! Two in Damascus? Very nice indeed. :)

I do like the Damascus, a lot, but the bottom knife's stag was fatter than the bolsters, so it was passed on to a friend. Fat stag is not my cup of tea, even though it handles well, I mostly carry more than I use, so prefer slim fit

I beg you to use that knife.

I use it all the time and keep it in my watch pocket pretty often. No heavy duty stuff though. I would be heart-broke if I dropped it on a hard surface and broke them purty handles. :D

I have a celluloid case peanut that rides in my coin pocket with a couple of bucks in quarters and a peace dollar. The handles still look good but the bolsters have taken a beating jingling with all those quarters.

I sharpen it once in a while and oil it rarely (never). I do occasionally clean it with alcohol swabs when I think about it at work. Just wipe the blades and blade wells a few times to get rid of the lint and grime and then dry with a patch of gauze.

Would love to see some pics of this Peanut to examine wear from the change, etc that jiggles there with it. I enjoy seeing knives that get carried and used heavily! :)

I'll get a good picture up in the morning when I have some natural light to work with.

After reading this thread I began wanting a peanut. Today, being payday, I picked one up at the local hardware store. It's a Case that I believe is part of the "working" series. It has jigged brown synthetic scales and SS blades. I'm pleased with the size, walk and talk and the ergonomics. I'm sure it'll find it's way into my watch pocket every morning.

I must confess that a month ago I was cramming a couple huge SOG knives in my pockets every day. I bought my first Case 3 weeks ago and have carried it every day since. I noticed that I never needed those huge assisted opening SOGs with their fancy ArcLocks. I'm a convert. I'll keep the big "tactical" folders for hunting trips but in reality I can get through my day with the traditional knives I've fallen in love with. Thank you everyone for keeping the traditional forums going and keeping the knives in your pockets classy.

Welcome to the Traditional side Pulp. Congrats on your new Peanut (a pic is mandatory FYI) and glad to hear you're enjoying these old classic folders.

I have not carried my Peanut for over a month it losing out first to an Esquire then a White Owl that i thought was just about perfect for my arthritic fingers to manage, anyhoo this morning when i returned from my morning victual shop i put coffee on to brew then set about building a baguette and cheese snack but when i reached into my pocket for the White Owl i discovered it had somehow changed into a Chestnut Bone Peanut and i have to say i had forgotten what a brilliant little slicer the Peanut is it whipped through both baguette and cheese whith ease and if pushed i should have to admit smoother than the White Owl, i suspect because of the thinner blade. Now if only i can work out how the little rascal managed to change places ??

Welcome to traditionals, friend. You've also stumbled into the most friendly, sharing sub forum on the 'net. This place is a like the front porch of the old country store, so pull up a chair, and help yourself to the coffee. Of course, buying a peanut you now are a member of The Cult.

Carl, Grand High Muckba.
