How about a white Micarta-scaled Case CV peanut? There is something about this durable (and attractive) combination that simply begs for a place in the watch pocket of a tuxedo!

I love that Appaloosa bone! What is the stamp on the bolster?

The Appaloosa is stamped 7287 on the small end bolster. I agree, it is my nicest Peanut.
I probably can't see the photos myself because I have them hosted on a web server on my desk.

^ Ideaphore, I saw the 7287, what I meant was, what does it mean, and why did Case stamp it on there? Is it a serialized run deal, or something else? Thanks, Brad.

Look at the links on the side of that page too. They explain all the number options.

The stamp on the bolster of appaloosa is because it was a serialized (special) run, has nothing to do with the pattern number which would be a 6220 on the tang stamp

Pete

Side note If 7287 were a pattern # it would be a 7=wood scale, 2= # of blades, 87= a nonexistent pattern, there is a 087 3 1/4" serpentine Jack or stockman which is a great pattern.

See Collecting Case Knives, Identification and Price Guide, skip to the end of page 85 using the right arrow at the bottom right. It contains a description of this exact 1979 issue of the limited edition Case Appaloosa Peanut, including a mention of the serial number on the bolster. Cut and Paste is disabled on the page.

The new Redbone CV arrived Wednesday a.m. :)
The reports of pink redbone or pinker with speckles had me leery and wishing I'd have went with another yeller or on to the Chestnut. Opening the box I was happy enough with lil rednut. It isn't the "old" redbone of days gone by, but is definitely 99% Red bone. A smidge of fresh cut strawberry speckle near the bolster was the only "flaw" in my eyes. Enough character to say this one is different from other red peanuts and still a bright red. It will age quite well. Blades are both centered well but in need of some EdgePro re-profiling to make it right. Clinometer read 30.2 - it is definitely scary sharp. The leg stubble ran away crying. :p
Took it along to work tonight. Cut some sausage, cheese and a tomato for a sandwich, opened some envelopes and a bag of coffee beans. Didn't realize how accustomed to my former edc DF2 H1 carefree usage until photoshoot. Yup! Nine hours later I wiped lunch off with hot water followed with mineral oil. Nice patina on day 1  couldn't have forced a better one! Attempts at clear pics to chronicle are futile, as you can see by the two I managed to get, oh well it's all I got.

Have a few vehicular necessities to spend on for the next few paydays so Chessie & Dama will have to wait. As it is, I'm well taken care of by this pair o' p'nuts.

This is my small bunch of peanuts, patiently waiting for the inbound Redbone CV to arrive.

...
Congrats on your anticipated redbone peanut!! That's a very appealing collection you have (including the RR peanut - looks good)!:thumbup:

After many years of waiting for the knock on my door, I now realize that I may never be asked to join this prestigious cult. Therefore, I humbly present my application below.

YOWZA, Dean, you've got more peanuts than a box of Cracker Jacks!!:thumbup::thumbup:
I suppose by definition a cult is NOT a democracy, but if it were, you'd have my vote! :D:D
(BTW, I've always imagined your username has an Asimov connection, right?)

Yes, many years ago when I first went on the web I assumed the identity of Asimov's greatest robot. I imagine if he carried a knife it would be useful and inconspicuous...maybe a peanut.

With a nice little collection like that, you get automatic membership in The Cult!

Very nice gathering of legumes!!:thumbup::thumbup:
