Cult of the peanut , members

I've carried this one for as long as I can remember. It's a 1970 which is my year of birth so she's special to me. I've used her to do just about any task you could imagine, including saving a few lives when people have tried to hang themselves in our Jail (I work in Law Enforcement).
She's always with me and she shows the wear yet it just keeps chugging along. I've learned it doesn't matter how big of a knife or how many features it has. It just matters that you have something sharp when it is needed. I have Sebenzas, Spydercos, Customs etc but this one is the 99% carry.

The current Camillus peanut of the retired Grand High Muckba, along with some of it's small liberating friends;

I carried my Opinel and Original Leatherman P4 for about a decade, I wired up hundreds of T-stats and Azel zone boards with it fixed a zillion things and changed my wife's car battery with it, great little tool it was my original coin pocket occupant prior to the peanut, I recently upgraded to a slightly larger mutitool, it took me forever to find something that had the specific tools I wanted without the junk I'd never use, and it has a 3 dimensional Philips+++took me a long time to find a vendor that had new old stock of the Juice KF4 at a normal price, not too many things I can't fix with these items in the pocket, so if you guys are keeping track of my pockets always a peanut & zippo, always the mutitool, most days the Christy and almost always a second traditional, it's a disease I hate asking for help and try to only rely on myself.

Today i just received my latest peanut a basic "old yeller", after a quick wash in warm soapy water to "get the factory out of it". The Captain went straight to work slicing up a pizza box and a few other bits and pieces just to see how it felt and it felt GOOD, so todays carry a #25 Single Blade Little Jack went back in the EDC box, it looks like The Captain is going to be in my watch pocket for some time.

I stand honored that you named it after me! You have good taste in knives. (Culture, breeding, "gentlemanly" portent and bearing.) Enjoy your piece of fine American cutlery!

Again, I feel deeply honored.

The honour and pleasure are mine, in fact i have just ordered a #6987 Dark Red Bone Peanut to complete the set of cv "nuts".

This is not a peanut, but I have used my Case mini Copperhead as a sunday knife, a "Gent's knife". It slips easily in the coin pocket and I really don't notice it at all. Actually forgot it there. Recently I broke up some heavy cardboard boxes with it. Surpricingly easy and even ergonomic to use. These small knives pack a punch.

All right, I think it's time to admit to my peanut love. There's something about the little-big knife that disappears into my pocket. I have had a bit of a "sinusoidal relationship" with Case knives, but the ones made in the 70's and earlier are all 100% spot on. These 2 are among my best knives, I really like having one in my pocket. Both are 10-dot from 1970. My only hope is the cult still has room for one more member!:D

Ok, you guys have me beat into submission. Please check out my thread and let me know your opinion.

After my TC sheepsfoot did the heavy lifting, it was the peanut's time to take over. My first ball and cage attempt:

Huh, I've been to the dark side... I thought I'd achieved Enlightenment? :p

Welp! as it sits, the refresh key is wearing out. The cv yella fella is at the last stop before it hits the PO Box. Oddly it isn't making the "shipment ready to pickup at post office" notification get here any faster??? goshdangdagnabbit! For the cost of forever stamps, they should be open 24-7! :p

After the refresh button wore out, further movement of the yeller nut ceased. Days passed. Could've walked to the facility and retrieved it and been back in the amount of time it sat there! I was actually going to start a "lost in transit" search. Today the PO Box contained a lone item. The cold sweats immediately stopped. A flash through my mind of the dangers others have experienced with the draw of a cult on their loved ones. I thought "someone is giving me time to really think about my decision."
Pshaw! I say! Riding shottie in the watch pocket it will be! RedBone due to arrive tomorrow and a Chessie will be next.
Deep into the Abyss.
Oh, the lil yeller feller's posterity shot. Admire the shine as it won't be unloved, unused long.

You can maintain that shine with Rennaisance Microcrystalline Wax/Polish at a cost that is certain to keep you smiling, and the knife gleaming!

Think about it.

You now move to the second level, Grasshopper.:D

It goes like that, the questioning, the hesitation if it's enough knife, then the breakthrough and enlightenment. It took me a while to learn what my father had found out 50 years before.

The peanut is a mostly knife. Good for mostly what you have to cut. Once in a while, like out in the woods, it's not enough, so that's why they make sheath knives. Being a normal suburbanite, my peanut is good for shopping malls, backyard gardening, home projects, opening packages, mail, whatever. Out in the boonies or canoe camping, I have a sheath knife on my belt with a real 4 inch blade. If that's not enough, I have my 12 in Ontario machete or my dad's old homemade 10 inch bushwhacker as he called it, in my pack or boat bag. Right tool for the job. I think the way my old man saw it was, if a small pocket knife was not enough, then a medium size pocketknife was not much better. So he'd grab another tool. I don't think the old man worried about senerios like some people worry about today. He was the most practical man I ever knew. But then he wasn't a knife knut like us. He was just a regular person who knew he needed a cutting tool to make life a little easier, and this was what he carried because it had been a gift from his mother when he went off to school in a suit. He got used to it, and it became a sentimental item. Then it became part of him as he was a one knife man. I think I've finally figured out what he knew. Took me a lot longer though.

In the past year now, my amber bone damascus peanut has not been out of my pocket. It's become my sole single edc. Once in a while if I know the day's got something coming up, I'll augment it with another knife like an Opinel, or my sheath knife. But 99% of the time now, I'm only carrying my amber bone 'nut. So far, it's worked on every cutting job.

Welcome to the cult.

Carl.

Good read, Carl. Reminds me of what my father used to say about "these modern times" and how the biggest problem with people is "too many choices". Thanks for the reminder!

[ Trying to figure out why my images are not showing up ]

Here are a few of my favorite Peanuts : Strawberry (2010), Leopard (2006) and Appaloosa (1979) Bone. The Appaloosa Peanut is etched on the main blade with "Case" and "Appaloosa", and has a interesting cutout for the nail nick that looks factory made - see the 3rd photo. It also has much smaller rivets andno shield.

Thankies! :o
It was sharp out of the box, pull was nice on the blades, pen was centered, clip's tip just a hair to the shield side otherwise very good f&f. I did touch it up on the Sharpmaker on the 30 degree side- just to smooth the edge only. Bald spot proved it was mighty fine.
Force of habit to clip an H1 Dragonfly2 in the back pocket along with my Vic Cadet. I'll be danged if it weren't the Peanut showing off today! Tags removed from sunglasses, bags of coffee opened, nails cleaned. Many things a 'nut should do without a lick of trouble. Nothing took the shine of the lil big knife that can. The DF2 may get some deserved time off. If I didn't find the cap lifter and impromptu drivers handy on the Cadet I could be a one knife show.
Day done and finished the smooth up on the blades on f and x-f diamonds with a light stropping. Legs are shaved with no razor bumps!(arms are clean shaved already) Now am happy. Hoping the leg hair isn't too skeert to grow back :p

Thanks for the tip Cap'n O. I've used RenWax in the past - may still have some in a box somewhere. I packrat, I forget, I find and Rejoice!
Thinking is best left for thinkers. I just do. Patina it is ;)

Ideaphore- those are some purty peanuts! I seem to recall back when I had TV(on cable even!) watching a goofy knife salesman guy on QVC showing off some Appaloosa bone Case knives at, what seemed to me at the time, ridiculous prices and me being poor with cable TV just couldn't swing the price. Woe is me! I'd gladly pay those prices today :grumpy:

This is a Queen Reverse Mammoth Peanut 1 of only 3 made as a sample run. I love the feel of this beauty and it gets into my pocket a lot. In a small pocket sheath.
