Cult of the Texas Jack; why should the peaNUTS get all the glory

I just never really cared for the high contrast of light/dark on the "amber bone" plus that bright orange highlight. If it were my only knife, I guess the covers would eventually mellow, but I decided to help it along with the old tea soak:

The tea stain looks great mate! Funny as my older amber bone tj had a very similar colour from the factory. The new ones however are much more whitish.

That tea soak treatment looks great r8shell. I love the large Stockman and amber bone (I WISH it was available in CV/chestnut bone!). That and chestnut bone are my fav or Case's colors. Mine will age naturally, but they do darken in time. I've snapped pics of it periodically to capture it's aging process over time.

r8shell, that Texas jack looks great! Can you tell me how you did it?

Thanks.
I washed and wiped the bone down with alcohol to get any oils off. I filled a cup with loose leaf tea and put the knife in with the blades open, keeping the pivot just out of the tea. (the backsprings on these Cases are stainless, but I didn't know if there could be rusting in the joint) Then I poured boiling water in and let it soak half the day. I've read of some techniques that call for boiling the whole knife in tea for 30 minutes, but I was nervous about cracking. Then wash it well with dish soap and baking soda and then oil everything.

Hanging out with a peanut:

I've done the boil for 30 min technique on two knives and haven't had any cracking.....I made sure it was a very very slow boil. Though I did notice a little gap in the back springs after on both knives.

This was on a CV stj and a SS med stockman

I'll have to try your technique next time. Looks like you got yours is a little darker.

Nice job.

Oh... I love my Texas Jack... but the Peanut as well - Qualifies me this for a "double agent" ?

CTJ is a good knife. Just out of curiosity, what would be the next size up from the CTJ and does it come with something else other than a pen blade which I find hard to open.

Daddyo that's a beauty!

My own 6232 - is it the grandfather of today's 62032 TJ? - that I'm immensely proud of (an amazing gift from Paul Hilborn)... a 1965-69 Case XX
