Curious: Is anyone else allowed to carry a knife at school.

Grew up in small town in Midwest. Must of the boys carried a Buck 110. I graduated in 84 thought. In Ca now and work on construction equipment. I go on school and college campus at times. Just don't have anything showing.

Yeah. I carried a Puma lockback, I guess just about a 3" blade all through junior high, high school & college in CT & MA. But that was back in the mid-70's through mind-80s. Haven't a clue what the rules were, if there were any at the time. I just figured if I didn't do anything stupid, I'd be OK.

Not the same today, for sure. :(

I go to high school in north Georgia.... if I got caught with a knife any knife I would probably be expelled... this does not mean I don't carry one it's just that I can't get caught ;)

This was the same when I was in middle school

Trust me there are plenty good hiding spots in my backpack ;)

i do bring a baliyo pen and a uzi pen in my pocket and have been questioned because they thought it was a knife. Baliyo pens are great for getting rid of that ohh crap where's my knife feeling lol I'd highly recommend both the uzi and Baliyo pen if your interested

Is carrying a knife in high school worth probable expulsion and possible felony arrest? Only you can answer that.

Hidden in your backpack? Chances are those that would be searching have much more experience in the game than you. Plus, a metal detector would find it instantly.

There's a local school (SE Michigan) that were looking into for my son when he's old enough (5th grade I think ).
They let you carry a non locking under 3" so I'd send him with a SAK or small leatherman.
I was surprised and happy to see a school with common sense policy still.

In grade school I chewed my PopTart into the shape of a knife once, Im still in prison as I type this....:(

Freshman in HS. Absolutely not allowed- I was chewed out by the Vice Principal for my SAK just this year, and he's a knife guy. He told me it was beyond his control. In middle school I got in much bigger trouble for bringing my Kershaw Blur to school. So I'm guessing not at all where I am in North Jersey.

I am definitely not allowed to but definitely do anyway. I carry it clipped to my pocket where everyone else can see it. No one has ever said a word to me. I should note that I am in college right now as I type this with my CQC7f clipped to my pocket. I have even taken it out the odd time in the middle of class and no one has said a word. Everyone has been surprisingly cool about it.

Carrying a knife is part of my beliefs so they can't tell me not to or I will take them to the human rights tribunal for discrimination!!

I am 16 years old and I own many knives. I will never carry them to school.
We aren't allowed to, and the Principle is very thorough and particular so I would never ever want him to get a hold of one of my knives. He may not give it back if he took it. And if he took one of my GECs I would be very upset. I know some kids still carry pocket knives though they don't collect them like I do. I certainly won't be joining them in bringing them to school.

When my son was in college his room mate turned him in for having a pocket knife.. Blade was under 2in.. The school whatever took it away but in the kitchen of the dorm he was in there were butcher/steak, paring knives... Don't get it!! John :)

At the University of Windsor, there's no problem with having a knife on campus.
But you cannot have one in the dorm.

I live off campus, so that doesn't hamper me...having talked to some folks who live in dorms though, and the horrors of roommates and outright hatred of each other, perhaps the no knives in dorms rule makes sense. :D

6 months after graduation he got the knife back!! He went on to become a LEO and now a detective in Pittsburgh City Police... Kind of ironic!! John:D

I've already checked where I live it's misdemeanor.... don't worry they won't find it with a metal detector... like never.... ever... ever find it unless I want them to.....

I know you said is it worth it? I have defensive blade training and if a need arises such that it's either defend myself or die I'd much rather be able to have a useful tool at my disgression...

All you need to do is turn on the news seems like a terrist attack everyday

just trust me they won't find it... like never find it...

I know there aren't many students on here but I was wondering if anyone else is allowed to carry a knife at school. I go to school in East Texas and were allowed to have them if the blade is smaller than your handbreadth. Just curious as to how common this is across the US... Thanks!

I'd suggest finding the rule/regulation/law in writing.

As far as I know, the hand width "rule" is a falsehood that is commonly spread by people that don't know what they're talking about. Don't take someone's word for it; find the law yourself or you could end up in quite a bit of trouble because you trusted someone else's bad information.

I was in HS from 1982-1986 in northern New Jersey. Everyone had either a Buck 110, or a Balisong. As long as we weren't killing each other, or robbing one another no one cared.

Past experience with threads says this is not the way laws and rules are written. They are usually more specific as to blade length. As mentioned hand size varies.

The way Aaron explained it is exactly how it is written at the high school in our rural Idaho town. You can pack a knife, but it must be smaller than YOUR handbreadth. I've had two kids go through this school system so I made sure to know. I doubt that's a typical rule most places, but that's the way it is here.

Why am I looking up a thread about knives and concealed carry in HS?! Oh yeah because Dave's in my BF buddy group and my message center brought me in here. Otherwise, I was done with HS in 1981 FFS!!!
