custom becker (pics)

I can't say. The person that did it doesn't want me too. They're too busy. I'm sure there are lots of custom knife makers out there that would do it. BTW, redhat6161 had one made too:

Ok, it may be heresy to admit it around here, but this photo is the first thing I've seen that has made me covet a BK-2, I'm not even a clip point or altoids tin fan, but man do I desire this one!

I've made a few Becker inspired blades (BK16 with long handle, tweener with Izula blade, custom chopper, and Becker bush sword in process), and am working on a BK6 for tman as well.

And there's always this one, done by Haze:

I've decided that this will be the year of upgrades to my Becker knives instead of new additions. So far I've got new handle scales on my 9, 16 & 24 and an awesome sheath for 9 from Mauser!

After four months recovery from a broken shoulder, I am now using Becker modding to enhance my therapy.
A BK7 modded to a full convex grind, drop point, hand cut jimping, choil and reshaped lower guard. This is a work in progress. All work done by hand, no power tools.

hawkhead,

That is one of the finest examples of a BK7 I have seen so far. Awesome attention to detail on the jimping, and the convexing looks very well executed. I will be incorporating some of your mods into the 7 that arrived last week. Thank you for sharing.

Incredible work my friend. I have a BK9 I rendered, with most of what you've done there to the 7. Really nice. Love the reshaped finger guard. How did you get the jimping so even, if I may ask? BTW, that thing deserves it's own thread.

MR3T- Thank you for your kind words. Anytime I can help, pm me.

Warrior- Thank you for your thoughts on my work. I stare at the knife for days then strip the finish. I always keep the whole piece in mind and draw on the blade so I can tweek the idea to get the best effect with the lines making good visual sense. All my filing is done with the piece securely mounted, I do not measure. I was blessed with a steady hand and a good eye for design and proportion. Prior to retiring from dentistry, I taught visual art at two colleges and was a custom stockmaker for many years. It also helps that I have a very understanding wife who enjoys my work. I would like to see your BK9, please post the link. T.L.A.R. is my guiding principle. That looks about right.

Holy crap hawk that's incredible! The convex grind looks really neat, how'd you pull it off by hand and how did you get such a nice finish on the blade and tang? I always have problems trying to finish those areas.

Cam_16- Thank you for your comments. I used WD40, a 12"x2" aluminum sanding block and 100 grit emory cloth wrapped around the block. The blade is clamped between two pieces of wood on the bench and then the hand reshaping begins. I do NOT stay in one place. I move down the blade as I reshape. If I had a belt sander I could do the job in 1/4 the time, but I enjoy the time spent slow as it is. The key to any finish is metal prep. Always back your abrasive paper with a block. I use an aluminum sanding block made for models. Work the metal using finer grit until you achieve the desired finish look. I usually go down to 500 or 600 then buff with a Scotchbrite pad.
BTW the finish on my 7 is only up to 220 so far.
