Hi Chameleonbear- By hand, really. After stripping, I looked at the knife for days and then started drawing the design changes. I would tweak the design until I was happy with the modifications. Then, out come the files and I start removing the blacked out areas. The convexed blade was a more intense undertaking. It rquired filing(diamond impregnated files), stoning, and finally emery cloth backed with an aluminum block and sanding with 220-320-400 wet or dry, black compound and buffing with a well worn scotch brite pad. The last part was easy, the G10 scales were from The Knife Connection. A custom sheath was ordered and will take about 6-8 weeks.
I have a bench grinder which I did not use on the Becker, but it is a requirement on my current project. I am completely changing a CRKT First Strike tanto into a hidden tang convex blade fighter. I use the T.L.A.R. principle: That looks about right.
