Now THIS is what the Necker has needed....jimping. I really like this one.

Just curious. Why did you got to the trouble of sanding it with those grits if you was going to force a patina on it?

I originally just wanted a polished blade.....as time went on, I thought it would be better to do something to protect the blade. Just trying to figure out how I wanted it to look. I sanded off 2 patinas before I finally decided on the hot apple cider vinegar. Basically I just need more Beckers to mod in different ways...(meniacle laugh)

Two BK-10 knives. The top one is slightly customized with more sweep to the swedge and belly, deramped, new jimping then the blade was epoxy coated to duplicate the stock coating. The micarta scales were epoxy coated and shot with clear satin finish. The longer swedge is hard to see in this photo. The bottom one is stock except for the convex cutting edge.

Very nice! I have plans to do something similar whenever I get a second BK10.

Top one is a big improvement, IMO. I know I'll regret this down the road, but I just can't warm up to the BK-10. Love the BK-9, most of the other BK's. BK-10... meh...

Thanks rockspyder - I will be modifying the second 10 after I finish my BK-9 fighter project. I'm planning a short fighter similar to my customized BK-7, but that is a long term project probably August or September. I like the size of the 10, but the bluntness of the nose bothers me just a bit. That said, when you realize this is a Pilot's survival knife, I am certain Mr. Becker used that design for strength when cutting out of a downed helo or other aircraft. We can always customize to our own preferences as many of us do.

That may be true regarding the downed aircraft, but I'm pretty sure that initial premise is based on flawed information. The original pilot's survival knife may truly have been helpful in cutting one's way out of a simple, fairly thin-skinned WWII aircraft. Not so much nowadays. The pilot's survival knife comes into its own after the aircrew's boots are on the ground and running. Hence the ads a few years ago from Fallkniven that two (or three?) of their knives were approved by the Navy for aircrew use. Yeah, they're tough, but best I remember, the F1 was one of them.

The Skystorm sheath for my customized BK-7 arrived today. They are perfect together.

Super duper proud of my one and only Becker. I need to get a leather sheath for her. What do you guys think?
