Custom Knives At Work.

I let my boss use one of my knives on a hunting trip this fall. He used it to process this ram, as well as an elk. Said it performed very well.

I shot this buck over the weekend. Thought I'd share my Dad's skinning knife...not really a skinner but you use
what you got. Dad knows how to put a patina on a knife...use the heck out of it.

Indeed, nice rack. Nice knife as well. Like a Shapfinger on 'roids...and one cant go wrong with that. I realize, it most likely wasnt inspired by the Sharpfinger, as it doesnt have the swept up point. I was just reminded of that knife for some reason.

This buck was harvested with a bow by my great nephew Tyler - his knife is a Steingass Gentlemen's Bowie

Here is a post to this thread without a picture of the knife actually "at work".
But I do have a bit of a testimonial on some Damascus.
This knife went to a good customer in Sweden who has three of my knives and just ordered a bit of a different style knife.
In the email he mentions this knife here and how it performs.
I have often stated that the 1095/15N20 combo I use for my damascus is about the best performing steel from my shop.
The 1095 is from an old batch of 1095FG with extra vanadium that Aldo had some years ago.
It just cuts like a big dog.
Here's what the guy said, "Funnily enough, a couple of the guys in my team were admiring that big knife you made a couple of weeks ago when we were skinning a moose calf together. I had skinned out one side while two other guys had not even finished breaking out the legs on the other side. The main reason was my knife was sharp! But also it just works well, has a long cutting edge and I can use it with confidence, so I just get on with it rather than take little little cuts. Anyway, one of the guys said they wanted a new knife but thought that although mine was beautiful and obviously took a great edge, it needed an up-swept point to work properly........ I just kept cleaning up the calf.... In truth, as we both understand perfectly well, there is nothing much I can't do with the knives you have already made for me - but if we admitted that you would never need make me a new one....... :-) "

Point - properly done Damascus makes for one great working knife.!!

Bump, first 2 are me. Third is a good friend/customer/beard of the decade winner using a 52100 hunter I made to process 1 buck & 1 doe back to back.

One of my customers sent me this pic of a Nessmuk he got from me being used to skin a bear last week. The pic isn't that great but his review of my knife is.

"Randy,
I did not get one this year. However I did get to try your knife out on bear skinning. It worked Great! I have several pictures but I think this is the best. FYI, I did not have to sharpen it during the process and it’s still shaving sharp. I’m impressed. Any other knife I have used had to be sharpen several times during the skinning.

James"

can't ask for more than that. The knife is O-1 with mammoth ivory and micarta scales, BTW.

thanks
