Custom Knives At Work.

I just had a Pack Knife head out for the weekend in Texas with a father and son duo who used it to build their camping shelter:
(This kind of stuff makes me proud to be a knife maker.)

I'm generally a lurker on this forum...but Karl's knife is awesome. it is a real piece of art and I am proud to be using his work. My son (in the picture) loves all knives and sharp objects, but this pack knife is his favorite. The knife is equally good at building a wilderness shelter, dicing onions for our dinner in the woods and slicing limes at home for my beer...oh and making my buddies jealous! I can't recommend Karl's knives enough!!

One thing I was surprised with...ok two thingss 1) the packaging is awesome 2) the sheath Karl made for the knife was both functional and hansome (I was going to make one myself, but will probably not now)

Thanks.:) Though you have to be careful with those beasts around here. there was a lethal beaver attack some time ago.
It is one of mines (from my workshop). Simple working blade with rubber handle.

Yes, I do and you are right; some of the hogs in Europe can be scary big. Though some American Razorbacks are not to be sneezed at either.

Ive hunted hogs in several European countries. Some countries dont even allow knife hunting per se. Germany for example allows you to use a knife only after you've shot it and might need to finish it off.

Here a pic from Poland:

Pig aint that big - car is small (it aint no Escalade ;-) )

Stalking huge hogs at night through the primeval forrests in Europe is a great experience.

Warthog hunting in Africa is recommended as well. I need to back there soon:

(This warthog isnt mine)

Can either you or Lon provide some specs for the pig stickers? I am making a couple of hog knives for my brother and myself for an upcoming hunt here in the States. One will be a 9.5" blade the other 11". What is the length of your blade? What steel is it? It appears to be differentially hardened so it would seem that you recommend that feature in a hog knife. That is what I am planning for my knives as well but if there is a compelling reason to harden the whole blade I'd like to hear it otherwise I'm going to go ahead with claying my blades. I'm also planning on using Micarta handles. What would be the best grit finish to ensure good handle grip even when bloody wet?

Finally got to use my Williams Quachita Hunter. Our first hog hunt in Dec was a bust but we went back this weekend and my son shot two nice boar hogs (180 and 170). I have to brag that he put each one down with one well placed shot and they both dropped in their tracks. Then he skinned them with the Williams Hunter. My only part was to then butcher the meat (tenterloins and backstrap).
