CUSTOM MACHETE Challenge!

My expected timeline for this is to start immediately after, before, or on christmas day, and I'll be doing possibly an entire buildalong (again)

This sounds like fun! I'll have to sit this one out though. Who are the makers that are involved so far?

I can hardly wait to see your machete, mr Farmer. I used one of your goloks, and it was the choppingest little golok I ever used, right up there with my Bark River. And yours was even smaller.

I'm in. My first competition... I'm thinkin a 5160 Golok or Bolo or some combination there of anyway. I'll get to forging it tomarrow hopefully!

I'm in.

Initial concept of the "Marchete"
10"handle
18"blade
Forged from 1/4" 5160 stock
3/4 tang
hickory "axe" type handle.

Here's a preliminary doodle, I'm thinking the middle one....

Rick

That second one looks sweet. I'd be careful with a round profile handle though as it won't index well. I love the blade shape and the handle looks great you just need to be able to know the angle of the blade by the feel of the grip on the handle. Mac

Forging down from 1/4".... this is not a beheading sword... Thats the next competion!:p

I suspect the ricasso area to be 3/16"-7/32" at 1.25 wide... with a distal taper to the tip. The tang will also be tapered.

That sound better?

Pict..... I never make my handles round, for that very reason.

Thanks

Very Golok like Rick.... Those look great!

Im diggin the first one, it has great lines. Any of those would be waay cool though.

As nice as the second one is, I actually like the look of the third one quite a bit too! If you flared it slightly towards the point it could be quite a contender as well!

Good stuff, Rick, as always!:cool::thumbup:

Wow. That's awesome Rick. I had a similar thought but different. I used it for a Dao-ish sword design though (bottom one). I like yours better though for a machete. I did these last week but will go with something like the smaller one. The top one. It's a 12" bolo design. It is the size I would use out here and what I am more comfortable doing.
