CUSTOM MACHETE Challenge!

I agree Ryan.... the first one. It has that "energy forward" design that appeals to me.

1st one it is... I am calling it a "Golo-chete" for now

I got the Blank cut out and have started grinding. Here is the blank and I messed around a little in Photoshop to get an idea of how it COULD look!

that's might nice.

i'd get rid of the lower lanyard hole and cover it with scale material thouugh.

machetes are finicky with stuff like that IMHO.

I picked an awful day to forge, misting and about 40ºF I was able to get my forge started with only 1 match though! ( thank you Lord for dry tree bark and some old petrol. :D ) but here is the starting to my submission, Forged from a 3/8" x 2" 5160 leaf spring from an old 70's chevy truck I parted out... I had already forged the handle prior to this, this past summer.

One Match! here it is after it "caught" and preheating the blade.

What I started with today... it was a curved leafspring this past summer ;)

Nuthin like wet coal to make your forge look like a steam train :D

making the point, pointier, and a lil recurve to the blade and we have the beginings of a huge persian.

On my bench after a lil profiling. I'll really nail it down, and start hollow grinding the bevels, drilling the holes, over the next few days.

Well no pics of the build but I have a blade in the oven tonight. Too much fun to miss out on :D I will try to get a pic up soon. I was out in the shop finishing up a couple projects and found a scrap of paper I had doodled a few designs on. One of em is coming to life!

Good to see you enter the fray Bill.

On the one hand, i'm all pissed at myself that I can't start my blade yet. On the other hand, watching this so far is certainly upping my own performance standards on this one :D

I'm Shakin' in my boots (No Sarcasm in that)! I got some grinding done on mine today... Fighting me every step of the way.

Nice WIP photos! Can't wait to see where all of these end up!:thumbup:

I will be importing some Orcs via DHL from middle earth in February for the video segment.

I got the bulk of the grinding done, I still need to clean it all up... This is my first time working with 5160 and I really like it, I normally use Precision Ground O1 which I miss the "Precision Ground" Part!

I don't know if someone has started a WIP Thread for this but I figured I would give an update here. It looks like this is going to be a lot of fun with all the Great Makers involved so far...

(Laughs the in wicked, abyssmal tone of the throne of Mordor. . .)

My submission does kinda look like the elves knives doesnt it :p

While we're kinda on the subject, this one from Hellboy 2 always interested me. Sure its fantasy, but there's definitely potential from where I'm sitting -

Of course it could do without the blade "hook/catcher" and maybe a wharnish point?
