Customs Says "NO EXTENSION!" - They Want Your Pocket Knives NOW!

So, as drugs such as opium flow over the transem of our borders and fill the coffers of the Taliban who kill our troops; illegal aliens cross the border unchecked and strain the health and welfare system of our country, the folks at Customs deem it important to crack down on AO assisted pocket knives, I assume to protect the citizenry "from themselves".

Nothing better to do boys, like perhaps search container ships for potential terrorist WMD's ? That's just great. Just f'n great.

Amen!

i see this as a HUGE problem. i realize it's going to have a negative impact on the knife industries, which is awful. i hate to see good business have a large portion of their ability to prosper ripped away from them. i also realize it will have LEGAL ramifications for people who are subjected to (existing) switchblade laws that will now be interpretted incorrectly.

however, i don't think this will have any significant effect on Floridians, other than higher prices. that doesn't mean i don't want to try to help, though.

Maybe not, as long as you never carry your newly 'illegal' AO out of Florida.
Crossing state lines with an 'illegal weapon' is a federal offense.
As is carrying one into a federal building, post office, airport, etc.

As a knife retailer 60 mi. from the Mexican border, I have CBP and Border Patrol in and out of my store all the time. Many of them are long-time customers and tell it like it is. I have asked all the Fed and local LE customers that I know what they think of this pending change to the Federal regulations, and not one of them, NOT ONE, knew anything about it! Most were shocked, but not surprised when I showed them the emails that I have received on this subject.

Well, considering that CBP gets their marching orders from DHS, and who runs DHS (my former (thank God) governor), I'm not surprised either. CBP did not pull this out of a hat. There is an agenda here, and knives are but a small part of it. Because of this, I would encourage everyone to have their non knife enthusiast friends write CBP and Congress also. 'Nuff said...

There are duties higher than the arbitrary rules of tyrants.

exactly like the obligations to your fellow citizens who dont want you owning a gun.

I hope you're joking or being sarcastic.

The Bill of Rights are not 'priviledges' granted by the state (nor my 'fellow citizens').
They are an acknowledgement of the rights inherent to everyone.
Under your logic (if you're not joking), the Nuremberg laws against Jews in Nazi Germany would have been OK because they were the law of the land at that time??

To anyone that lives in Florida that thinks this ruling will have little or no effect on them, think again. If this eventually leads to the interstate shipping of assisted/inertia opening knives becoming illegal, companies will stop producing any knives that they fear could fit the definition. That means that the selection of knives on the market will dwindle immensely.

i know, that's why i said "higher prices"

The revised letters are up on the Knife Rights site. We'll be sending out a Email blast later today with the latest news, but in the meantime here are the links:

Write Customs & Border Patrol NOW and Mail your letter TODAY!

or

Write your Senators and Representative TODAY!

CBP's denial of an extension seems to be a clear indication that they do not intend to act in a fair and reasonable manner on this issue and have already made their decision to go ahead. That may be a somewhat cynical viewpoint, but given the history of CBP, it seems like a good bet. That means we have to set the stage for the next act, which will likely be conducted both in court and in Congress. The battle is far from over; your comments will play a key role in both efforts. If you haven't yet submitted comments, you need to do it NOW! Your comments on the record will make a difference and the more the better.

If you have not already sent your letter to CPB, please do so TODAY! If you want to send another letter, it couldn't hurt. The comments cannot be emailed, they must be mailed or sent by FedEx/UPS, etc. and they must be received in Washington, DC, no later than June 20, 2009. (The deadline is Sunday, June 21, but there's no mail delivery on Sunday).

I mailed my first letter the day I got the alert. I also printed out another one and sent it to a knife buddy who has no Internet.

:)

I'll tellya what is bothering ME. Now this is paranoia squared, or it is TRUE!
The country is in a mood to CUT bureaucracy.

Soooo..... start crap like this and "they" will NEED more help to respond to letters.

Now, is that far-fetched?

I know some gov't employees and don't think it is.

:rolleyes::grumpy::confused:

The fight was really in Calif were all this nonsense starts and then trickles down through the east.

..and if you voted for Gheys having equal rights for marriage then you deserve this . History shows that Immorality has brought down every great nation.

Same goes for saving the planet..heck if you beleive in basic Christian theology then you know everything in the earth will be burned up anyways.

(( Please keep the politics in the Political Arena and rants in Whine & Cheese. This topic is serious and complex enough without bringing in all our other insecurities to confuse the issue. ))

Oh and I almost got arrested for walking into my daughters kindergarten school with a small victorinox classic on my keychain. It hangs on a caribiner on my belt loop. A teacher saw it and the cops were waiting for me outside.

It is gonna get a lot worse.

Letters sent to CBP, my Senators and Representative.

Letters have been mailed and email sent.

Somehow I would feel better if I thought that any of my current representatives cared.

Hopefully I'm wrong!

They don't. I can't even get my locale post office to change their policy on shipping knifes.

They all think that this world would ne better off without knives.
