Customs Says "NO EXTENSION!" - They Want Your Pocket Knives NOW!

When the online poker industry was under threat they hired the former senator for NY as a lobbyist for $50,000 and got some help.
I suggest that the companies that have been importing and distributing off shore knives pony up $10-20K each, hire a lobbyist and coordinate with the China trade Mission and stop this. If China loses the US market, it's sort of a big cash hit. Plus they will be stuck with thousands of knives they can't even give away due to laws preventing their own people from having them.

The fight was really in Calif were all this nonsense starts and then trickles down through the east.

..and if you voted for Gheys having equal rights for marriage then you deserve this . History shows that Immorality has brought down every great nation.

Same goes for saving the planet..heck if you beleive in basic Christian theology then you know everything in the earth will be burned up anyways.

(( Please keep the politics in the Political Arena and rants in Whine & Cheese. This topic is serious and complex enough without bringing in all our other insecurities to confuse the issue. ))

Oh and I almost got arrested for walking into my daughters kindergarten school with a small victorinox classic on my keychain. It hangs on a caribiner on my belt loop. A teacher saw it and the cops were waiting for me outside.

It is gonna get a lot worse.

I don't think the Vic Classic was why the cops were watching you at your daughter's kindergarten school. The teacher may have noticed some apparent instability that had nothing to do with your key chain.

Be proud to be ghey.

If there is no politics, how can we lobby via mail our POLITICIANs to do work for us. I got a demerit for this, for asking about politics, when the whole thread is a call for political action against a cabinet level decision.

Mr Ritter is asking us to write to our elected officials who are going to Lobby the Administration to change what has been a Cabinet level decision.

Lean the difference between party politics and taking political action and it might make sense.

If anyone thinks they are going to be granted the right to turn this forum into a party politics ranting area they are sadly mistaken.

and have sent multiple emails in the last few days. Whatever happens it wont be for lack of trying, got my fingers crossed...

Wrote my letter to Customs and just emailed Congressman Jeff Miller of Florida.

Nice Job! Let's write more letters or emails out to stop the customs being ridiculous!! I am not loosing my hobbies over a stupid customs' decision.

Folks,

This thread is here to inform people in hopes they will participate in writing letters to their representatives.

It is not here so that insults can be traded nor is it here for individuals to spew party politics.

There are appropriate places in BFC where those who wish to trade insults and those who wish to espouse party lines can do so, but the knife discussion areas are not that place nor will those actions be tolerated here.

i know, that's why i said "higher prices"

It'll mean a lot more than higher prices. At the very least it will hugely limit the choice of knives that are available. In a worst case scenario, it will lead to restrictive knife laws that will take the US on a similar path to what has happened in Great Britain.

Some people think that this is being blown way out of proportion. The time to find out if that is truly the case isn't after it is too late to do anything about it. Don't take this lightly. If you do there may come a day that you curse your apathy.

Think in terms of $300,000-$500,000 and it is not just importers who have to worry.

I say "AMAN" to this.
Some people think there is a difference between party politics and taking political action, and there is NOT, because you can't talk to them, most will not listen.

The government is on a rampage destroying personal freedom and taking over the lives of Americans. It saddens me beyond belief. I can't even begin to tell you how sad it makes me. What has been going on the past couple of years in this country is a true disaster. Writing letters to the Customs people won't make any difference. They don't care what you think. The media will actually support this sort of thing. They would prefer to have knife laws here like they have in the U.K. The progressive movement wants us to be like Europe.

The only hope is to clear out Congress in the next election. It is the only thing that will stop this invasion of freedom in the short term. I think only single term limits for elected politicians will solve it in the long term. I realize this isn't a new law. But the new interpretation of it wouldn't have happened without this amazing expansion of government power over the people. So go vote out every incumbent you can.

The one thing I can say on the positive side is that it might help boost more domestic knife production if the states don't use this interpretation to ban the products entirely.

Can not help you with the difference, I tried.
Infraction issued again. Care to try for Mod Sass next time, because that is exactly what it will be.

Get this straight, party politics will not be tolerated in this forum. You need to accept that or leave and I will be more than happy to hold the door for you and wish you well. Postiing political party rants is not the answer even though it might make you feel better.

What we need is a Fed Government like Texas has a session once every two years and that is all that the senate and congress needs to meet. when you have a bunch of elected officals seating around making law every day you are going to lose your Freedom.

please don't misunderstand. i realize this is a serious problem we are faced with and plan on doing my part to write my reps and educate everyone i'm in contact with. i'm just saying that "legally" the ruling will have little effect on what we carry, in FL. if i'm understanding, correctly, this will cause states with switchblade and gravity knife laws to change how they interpret the definition of those two things. we have NO switchblade laws, down here, and i feel comfortable that (AO's excluded) folders would still be considered "common pocket knives". interstate commerce would take a hit (i'm guessing), but more would be produced locally. plus we buy Chinese autos at our gas stations. so, even with import laws in place, i have a feeling there will be plenty of all types of knives available here.

i do believe that - injustice ANYWHERE is injustice EVERYWHERE, so i'm not sittin fat dumb and happy simply becuase they're not coming after me yet.

I was thinking in bed last night and my last thought before slumber was why the governments are so focused on folders, regardless of how they are deployed/opened. I mean, if one carries a fixed blade, large or small, wouldn't just drawing it out of a sheath ready to go be faster than any auto, A/O or manual knife? For me, the convenience of a folder is the ability to "put it away" not how fast I can whip it out and use it as a make shift weapon. And yes, it may be shorter than many FB's. It seems that a well placed FB in a fast draw sheath in the pocket or on the side would negate the need to regulate a folder of any kind or why not go after FB's too.

What gives? Set me straight on why this isn't a valid argument . . .

Sent letters via snail mail.
Sent Emails to back up the snail mail (except to the CBP the cowards).
Then I sent emails to every stinkin' national news media outlet I could find (probably about 35 emails or so).

I wonder if ANY news media organization will pick up the story (CNN, ABC, NBC, FOX, AP, Reuters, USA Today etc. etc. etc.)

Has ANYONE seen ANYTHING on ANY of the major news media outlets about this at all????

This ruling, if it stands, will put many of your favorite companies out of business. Don't believe for a second that all these companies ponying up big bucks to hire expensive lawyers and lobbiests are doing so because they have nothing to worry about.

I can assure you I have a lot on my plate that needs my attention right now, but this is taking priority because the potential is so very bad. Don't be putting your head in the sand thinking that it won't be so bad or will be limited in how much damage it would do. This is very seriously bad stuff going on and those who will be most affected by it are putting their money up because they recognize that potential. We don';t need to overhype the issue, really, becuase the cascade effect of this could be huge.

Customs' wants us to beleive it will have little or no effect because it only covers imported assisted openrs. That's the party line. That's BS, and you know it deep down in your bones.
