I'm pretty meticulous with writing out the shipping box contents on it exterior. What it is. If it's limited. What it's made out of. How much I paid for it. If I have a packing slip, it stays with the knife.I see it too. I have 5160 knives, I have drop point knives. I have burlap Micarta knives. But I didn't have one made by Danny. 10 years or longer from now, God willing, my son will be selling this knife to you guys for $50, not realizing what its history was.
My boys are interested in knives and have small collections, but I still bore them with knife talk sometimes.
As for COAs, I feel they are very important. I really like how the Custom Shop COAs are signed by the fabricator. With so much fraud out there, a COA is a bit of reassurance. Sure COAs can be forged, which is why I don't post pics of them online, or if I do for a sale, they are deleted afterward. But if I'm standing at a show or any second hand dealer, a COA will make a sale. Probably for a higher price than if there was none.
Edit on my comment about CS COAs. A lot of us buy Buck because we like to support an American Co. Or collect American heritage. It's nice to see the signature of that American that makes the knife. It is a very nice touch.
