nice initiative fedaykincmndr, but i think there's no need for a petition from the knife-community. all the things being told and written so far on the internet is DO's demise in itself, they're done for already. i think DO is already been so ridiculed that they are not even suitable anymore for any politician or lawyer with anti-knife ideas. they got nothing........
 
None of you have seen a knife. You've only seen an ad. How do you know that the knives will be knockoffs of ER knives? It's hard to believe people can get so worked up about rumor and innuendo. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything. There is no law against stupidity. It is still a free country isn't it? For pete's sake, let it go. It isn't worth the emotion.

Um ... are you suggesting the actual knives might not look like the pictures in the ads ... and if they don't then everything will be fine? :confused:

There are 2 possibilities. The knives will appear as pictured, in which case, they are look alikes. The other possibility is that the knives wont look like the adds. In which case, all the money they've spent on advertising will be an even bigger waste, if that's possible.

No, I'm suggesting it might be legal. I'm not questioning the stupidity of the ad campaign. I agree it was stupid. I'm suggesting that people are getting riled up without all the facts. But, as I said, it's a free country. There is nothing illegal about being riled up.

So, are you saying that they might produce knives that don't look like the ones in their ads? That would be completely assinine. Besides, they did have knives at SHOT and some people did see them. From what I understand they do look like the knives in their ads.

For Pete's sake, I'm not suggesting anything. I don't know. My point was simply that you don't know either. Yes, it would be stupid to knock off ER knives. Yes, it would be stupid to make knives that don't look like the knives in the ads. Yes, everything they have done is stupid. I haven't argued with any of that. But I don't have all the facts and neither do you. That's all I've said. Way too much emotion for a situation that hasn't finished unfolding.
 
What's the old saying, something about not letting facts get in the way of a good argument?

Their products will or will not stand on their own. As for lookalikes, pretty much all knives have edges and points. Not since the ulu has someone made a really radical departure from that formula, just variations on a theme. If ER thinks they are being ripped off they have recourse in the court holding jurisdiction, which I do not believe is here.

Getting all sweaty over something as inconsequential as knives which arent even in production is starting to look a little obsessive.

Extrema Ratio complained publicly about the knock-offs, stating that they can't afford taking legal action in the US (they're an Italian company).
