Dark Ops Petition/Contact...

No, I read the threads. ER doesn't know any more about it than you or I.

Read the threads again. ER is aware of the situation and they don't like it.

For Pete's sake, I'm not suggesting anything. I don't know. My point was simply that you don't know either. Yes, it would be stupid to knock off ER knives. Yes, it would be stupid to make knives that don't look like the knives in the ads. Yes, everything they have done is stupid. I haven't argued with any of that. But I don't have all the facts and neither do you. That's all I've said. Way too much emotion for a situation that hasn't finished unfolding.

The fact is, their knives have been seen and we do know that they are ER look-alikes and that they do look like the knives in their ads. That is, unless the knives they took to SHOT were not the knives they will be producing, and that would be really stupid. Not that I put Dark Ops above doing something that dumb.

You already said that. You're just repeating yourself. You didn't read what I said. Didn't expect you to. Best of luck.

Anyone notice that someone called "Dark Ops Knives" is currently browsing this thread? Judging from his posts, it looks like he's a genuine Dork Ops representative. I hope he has the balls to reply.

Quiet Storm said:
Yup - 'cause ER considers them knock-offs and somehow you're not willing to accept that.

Sorry, Quiet Storm, but you're just thick in the head. It isn't that I am unwilling to accept that. It is that I don't know. You don't know and ER doesn't know. If they turn out to be copycats we should do whatever is possible to put them out of business. BUT WE DON'T KNOW. THEY HAVEN'T SHIPPED ANYTHING. Sorry, I don't know how to say it in German. I'm outta here.

I'm not so sure our little friend QS is German by birth. In fact, I'm gonna say your a US Army Rat aren'tchya QS?

Gentlebeings, this website has a rule against personal attacks. Let's get back to talking about knives, or in this case about advertising for knives.

It doesn't matter! The photos they took clearly depict slightly modified Extrema Ratios and if you really believe that the actual knives do not look like the ones in the pictures you are kidding yourself. And if they're going to ship different designs that doesn't exactly improve their reputation in my book.

Last time I checked, my military ID was still written in German.

  I am insulted and yet astonished at the inanity that this thread has spiraled down into. I feel entitled to a personal apology by everyone involved for my wasted time, which I will never get back, reading this thread. :grumpy: :grumpy: :)

 What's with the disrespect towards soldiers, US or German? C'mon, you sure you got your head screwed on right?

The original extremaratiousa thread ssems to have been lost in the crash, so I'll do my best to recall what ER said...

1. Frank, the man who runs the USA branch of ER (and does a good job of it) pushes them to move some production to the US. ER refuses.
2. Frank quits. ER is upset - money and knives are unaccounted for!
3. Enter Dark Ops. Frank presumably has the ER knives to use as prototypes, and startup cash, but he has to get production geared up from ground zero. He pushes ahead optimistically, hence the booths and ads, but can't get the blades made. He throws together a quick fix for the SHOT show.

Hence it may be a case of outright theft, with ER unable to persecute from overseas. Frank hasn't stepped forward to defend himself from these malicious rumors, so they keep spreading. ;)
We know he can read... so why doesn't he clear things up? His business and his good name are at stake! Why do we care? We're knife enthusiasts, and we like to see a modicum of honesty in the industry.

The knives look kinda crappily designed to me anyways, at least the fixed blades. And the whole 9/11 motif, as well as hiring a guy who got run out of the SEAL teams and lies about his rank - it's just plain embarrassing.

While they may not have shipped anything, they had knives at the SHOT show, that acording to the people that seen them where copies of ER designs.

True. I hope that he will do so shortly.

Please keep in mind that his response must be considered and careful and may take a day or two to forumulate.

Geez... Why is everyone all over you? It's almost like one person posting under 3 names attacking everything you say.

Just to reaffirm your sense of reality, I'm with you on this. The pictures look like copied ER knives as do the actual knives at SHOT. "Nuff said.

Hey Quiet Storm,
I'm with you too man! What are the odds that THREE new guys come in here and have the exact same opinion and both are crappin bricks for these knives? I smell some BS and now I see that there are people who are so inane to think that DO is a legitimate company and will continue to post stupid crap about how we are the ones who are crazy for being mad at a company that is
a) Fueling the argument that knives are weapons
b) Outright stealing designs and products from a legitimate company
c) LYING THEIR A$$E$ OFF!!!!!

I hope they don't even one of their knives, even if they do redesign them, I don't deal with liars

If you suspect foul play, report it to the moderators using the red and white triangle-looking icon in the upper right-hand corner of every post. They'll sort it out and take any appropriate actions.

Just to remind everyone, for a while, Mercworx had everyone up in arms just like this. People said the knives didn't exist, that they were fake, that the copy was lame, that they ripped off a strider design, etc.

Well, guess what, that all got cleared up if I'm not mistaken. Now there are some people with legitimatly good reviews of the knives. Maybe everyone stopped pickin on them because Dark Ops one up'ed em, who knows... :D

Anyways, no one knows the ER/DO story, so why does everyone keep making ignorant comments about it? Yes, it looks bad. No, I wouldn't buy one of their knives (but if they want to send me one to play with, I'll try it ;) ), I think their ad campaign is pretty cheesy (although their copy has improved I believe), and the designs arn't that great.

Why does everyone feel the need to kick them while their down. Let them sink or swim. ::shrug::

What disrespect ? He even used a smiley (y'know, the smiling one, not the baffled one :D ) to make sure his comment is not taken as offending - he assumed that QS is US military person stationed in Germany (likemany others) ... i think it's just a tad too paranoid, seeing negative things ("anti-army sentiment") where there was none. You got me

On the subject of Dork Ops versus Extrema Ratio: i find their(DO's) whol;e advertising campaign absurd but i was wondering, how many ways are there to make overbuilt (?) knives really ? I mean, sooner or later they begin to looklike one anorther, just like the blades i like (more traditional knives) do. Besides, ER could be eyeballing the situation as it develops, just waiting for some evidence of IP-theft, something they can actually base their actions on.
