Thx Ben
Rember the pieces I was comparing it to were not antique blades they were modern prouduction pieces that besides the SGC blade are pretty good comparisons to what a traditional blade would look like
You can see were David has taken his design to the next level and even though he has never seen a Specialized Goza Cutter (SGC) blade he has a natural eye and hand for performance designs
I hope this brief video that shows me drawing and resheathing the blade helps demonstrate why this type of sheath (SAYA) is such an important part of this package
As noted in the video I was westing the blade pretty far out of the OBI (sash) so people could see what I was doing etc
Normally I would have it slide deeper into the OBI and by dropping my hip back therefore moving the SAYA off the blade as I draw I would have less distance to travel on the draw hand and that would facilitate an even quicker draw
It's been 20 years since I attempted a drop cut so I'm a bit old and rusty ......but I will get up to speed. Muscle memory is an incredible thing and as a young guy I spent a lot of time playing with edged weapons of this genre
David has a weird sense for how these things should work and this short sword is a joy to use
Hopefully as I mentioned David's generosity in showing how he does things will be appreciated ...... I know one thing
I can guarantee that if you went back in time and dropped of this piece to the likes of a warrior like Musashi he would likely have a very big smile
Remember I was doing the drop cut from a kneeling position which is much more difficult than doing it standing
I would like to see my speed increase ..... Remember this was my first attempt in 20 years and I would like to start the drop at eye level but I did want to get my cut in the middle of the screen
I will improve and get back to where I was .........hopefully
Please for anyone seeing this video
USE A WOODEN TRAINER AND THAN MOVE ON TO A DULL BLADE (IAIDO SWORD) WHEN EVER WORKING AT SPEED
I've been drawing and resheathing swords for decades and I do not want to see anyone sustain permanent injuries
A cut to your hand from a piece like this could be crippling and even lethal with out proper medical attention
