David Mirabile RONIN Battle Tanto WIP (PAGE 25 NEW CUTTING VIDEO)

Great unboxing video.

What a beautiful work of art and extremely practical at the same time.

That thing is sooo YOU..... (and Im not talking about the whale ****, but the Mirabile Masterpiece, as its henceforth known:D)

"Totally..., totally..........awesome."

Yessiree bob.

Thx Blade

I think I uttered the word awesome more than once ....... The word just kept coming out :)

I'll just have to agree with everything said previously. To me, it's as if this piece just grew to an organic perfection through natural selection - everything as it should be, where it should be, and as effective as possible. It's incredible that David can achieve this with each blade he makes. Thank you Joe and David for bringing this one to life. Thank you Coop for the amazing feat of capturing this perfection and making it so satisfying to view. Mike (and yes I can be this much of a granola bar without help :D)

Thx Mike

I'll reach out today just been wide open around here

I really appreciate the kind words

Stump , Willie , Erik and VicS

Thank you so much

David always blows me away but this piece really is something very special to me

Stump call me Joe please :)

That's quite the education I got there. ^^ Seriously, many of us can't tell the subtleties at first, but I KNOW IT WHEN I FEEL IT. Whoaaa! Now I know why.

Funny how you call David "Dave", and even call me "Jimmy" in person. No one but my longest friends and family call me that. It feels right from you. :) Instinct?

Looking forward to your testing,

David: Just super. I apologize for not rewrapping the purple blanket with 6' of paracord as you did. Lol!

Since the day I meet you and your lovely family you have been very kind to me

I'm an odd guy ...... People either like me or don't know how to take me ...... You guys have always seemed to except my oddness and for that we are friends :)

The work you do to bring these pieces to life can never be understated .... Like I said you have become a very crucial part of any project I get involved with and that is because you bring these pieces to life ..... For all to enjoy and document them for posterity.

Thank you and your lovely family for that.

Your pictures and Instagram account are a testament to the dedication you have for the knife community and the people that you have embraced....so that gets ya called Jimmy and a hug from me whenever I see you :)

Joe,
Your sword finished out very nice indeed ! David did a great job on it. Looking forward to seeing the cutting videos.

Joe

I'm perusing this thread as I'm doing some cutting of my own.... Well, actually I'm between surgeries, and I don't get to use cool knives like this monster- just boring little scalpels :D

This is really a special piece and I'm looking forward to cutting videos

Maybe sometime I'll send you one of MY cutting videos - lol

Here is video 2

It is a discussion on design and why David does the things that he does :)

There is a drop cut in the begining but it is more an overview of all the little things David does that sets this apart from his traditional inspirations

The more I that I am handling this blade the more I love it

Really an epic piece that has incorporated so many design elements to make the ideal user for me

Love it :)

Next video will be tatami mats and more draw cutting

I was and am :)

So many swords in this style do not have proper retention

It's a 15 inch razor blade so you don't need it sliding out by accident

Thx for the reply

Thx John

I guess drawing and sheathing is like riding a bike if you do it long enough muscle memory caries the day

For those wanting to attempt draw cuts and especially drop cuts were you are moving very fast ..... Please start out with a trainer and work your way to a live blade

So cool. Love seeing the comparison between it and it's saya with traditional work.
And that drop cut was great!

Thx Ben

Rember the pieces I was comparing it to were not antique blades they were modern prouduction pieces that besides the SGC blade are pretty good comparisons to what a traditional blade would look like

You can see were David has taken his design to the next level and even though he has never seen a Specialized Goza Cutter (SGC) blade he has a natural eye and hand for performance designs

I hope this brief video that shows me drawing and resheathing the blade helps demonstrate why this type of sheath (SAYA) is such an important part of this package

As noted in the video I was westing the blade pretty far out of the OBI (sash) so people could see what I was doing etc

Normally I would have it slide deeper into the OBI and by dropping my hip back therefore moving the SAYA off the blade as I draw I would have less distance to travel on the draw hand and that would facilitate an even quicker draw

It's been 20 years since I attempted a drop cut so I'm a bit old and rusty ......but I will get up to speed. Muscle memory is an incredible thing and as a young guy I spent a lot of time playing with edged weapons of this genre

David has a weird sense for how these things should work and this short sword is a joy to use

Hopefully as I mentioned David's generosity in showing how he does things will be appreciated ...... I know one thing

I can guarantee that if you went back in time and dropped of this piece to the likes of a warrior like Musashi he would likely have a very big smile :)

Remember I was doing the drop cut from a kneeling position which is much more difficult than doing it standing

I would like to see my speed increase ..... Remember this was my first attempt in 20 years and I would like to start the drop at eye level but I did want to get my cut in the middle of the screen

I will improve and get back to where I was .........hopefully :)

Please for anyone seeing this video

USE A WOODEN TRAINER AND THAN MOVE ON TO A DULL BLADE (IAIDO SWORD) WHEN EVER WORKING AT SPEED

I've been drawing and resheathing swords for decades and I do not want to see anyone sustain permanent injuries

A cut to your hand from a piece like this could be crippling and even lethal with out proper medical attention
