Death Chat!!

You guys can feel free to start a new thread. That is what this forum is for. The beauty of it is that we can talk about whatever hell we want so long as it is within BF rules.

Dan, you better find a date soon or you're not invited! :p

Hahaha... that is a good one! I suppose he can bring his better half if he did find a date. By better half I mean the date :p

Designed some more kitchen knives today. 2 paring knives, 1 small santoku, and a simple Chefs knife with a straight handle. Made some wood blanks to play with today. I am really digging the new smaller and slimmer santoku. But then again the standard Santoku is still my all around fav.

I will probably draw up a extra wide Cleavtoku with a 3-3 1/2" wide blade tomorrow.

Sounds like a productive day! Looking forward to seeing the designs.

Been looking at more 1911s. I'm starting fall hard for the stainless Dan wesson valor... At roughly $1500, it's double what I wanted to spend, but it seems like a great long term investment.

Damn, the prices on 1911 must have gone up. I paid about that much for my Valtro back then.

I would probably still go with a decent Springfield and upgrade it myself overtime if I didn't have enough dough to fork out all at once. I pretty much replaced all of the major parts on my Target Stainless Springfield. Kart Match Barrel, Ed Brown Ambi-Safety, Beavertail, Sear, Hammer, Firing Pin, Extractor, Ejector, Mainspring housing, XS Tritium Front and Adjustable Rear, and probably a few more that I forgot. I even did my own reliability work on it by polishing a few parts. Used my Valtro as a guide.

It is now ultra reliable with anything I feed it and nearly as accurate as my Valtro. Not sure about prices on parts these days but to upgrade a decent springfield with all those parts will probably get you pretty darn close to that 1200-1500 range depending on what base gun you start out with.

Didn't even think about it but I'm in m1a price territory now...

Which also reminds me I need finish the fal, can't believe it's been over a year...

No Gen 4 Glock love in here? I guess there is less charm in a Glock with 10 round mags.

LOL I was looking at prices for Valors yesterday too, $2000 for the black one, ouch. Id have to sell a couple of my harder to find Busses to fund that purchase.

what gimmejr said, glocks are very popular in california (LOVE my 3rd gen), just the 4th gen is harder to come by since it isn't on the CA safe roster list (maybe it is by now, but not before when I last checked).

The plain stainless version is about $400-500 less than the black one, and after looking at more pictures, I started to like the bare one more.

Still, $1600 is a lot for me to drop on a gun right now.

For a 1911, I would look for a series 70 Colt, get it in the state with a single shot conversion, then tighten the slide to frame fit, get sights you like and add drop-in and gunsmith fit parts to wind up with a nice, reliable, accurate gun without any of the safety B.S. that newer guns tacked on to Browning's design.

There was great success last night in Sunnyvale. About 100 civil rights activists against 5 antis. Only one of the antis spoke, she was an LCAV lawyer who told three lies.

After the meeting we had a very fun dinner at Firehouse brewery.

A 70 series Colt would be really nice if you can find one via private party transfer. I think the Springfields are still pretty much 70 series with the exception of that stupid mainspring housing safety lock. That was the first part to be replaced on my springfields.

The way the FAL project went, I dont know if I could ever take your advice again. :p

Hoping to get the FAL done by mid July. I'll give you a call to check on some stuff before meeting up with someone from calguns to help install the barrel.

Hey, I've got access to Techshop now, their lathe is more than enough to turn the barrel shoulder.

I can make a really nice shim too (if it needs it).

I think I can probably do it Sunday if the lathe has power.

If you don't want a shim I can swap barrels for you.

Haha I'm jk, no need to swap barrels. Shims would be perfectly fine if required. I do want to try another barrel though to see if that one is as difficult to screw on as mine.

alright! happy friday everyone! what's everyone plans for the 4th of July weekend?

i'm going to the beach and bbqing!
