Death Chat!!

you and rob definitely made me fall in love with the 1911...so many things I want but can't afford at once...

The Valor is up there with my most wanted 1911 list...

Realistically though, I'll probably pick up a used SA Loaded and go from there.

I prefer black too, it was just the first picture i found that popped up on google search haha.

I don't know much about guns (yet), but damn, those are sexy

if you think knives is an expensive hobby, wait until you start gun shopping! luckily, we have a good size group of gun enthusiasts on here so ask any questions if you have any! Like knives, everyone and their moms have their own opinions about what's good, so come out, shoot and determine for yourself! I believe that the gun laws in hawaii are more relaxed too.

i remember why i purposely try to stay away from gun forums...makes for a very unproductive day and reminds me of all the things I want and can't have yet..

Yep, a Gun Hobby can get really expensive really fast. Having said that... Everyone should own AT LEAST one quality
semi-auto pistol (Valtro 1911, CZ P-01, Glock 19)
revolver (Ruger GP100, Smith Wesson 610, 629, 625)
.22lr (Smith Wesson K22, Ruger Mark Series, Ruger 10/22)
shotgun (Merkel Side-by-Side, Remington 870)
ultra accurate bolt action (Steyr, Tikka, Remington 700)
battle rifle (M1A)
etc..... :D

And of course you have to have quality optics to go with your long guns. I am a big fan of quality European optics like Schmitt & Bender, Swarovski, Leica, Zeiss, etc... Most folks won't be able to discern the optic quality during the day. But it is very noticeable in low light. I have since switched all of my Leupolds to the Zeiss Conquest Series since I missed my chance at a shot on a Hog during really low light.

The above are just my personal preference. I am sure there are other quality gear that I left out.

May I cry?

I always wanted to own handguns but it is so complicated to do so in Canada. I mean, I could, but as far as carrying it's from your house to the shooting range with your gun in a locked case in your trunk.

one of these days i'll own a handgun.. i have wanted one for years...:o i have 3 rifles and a bunch of custom bows..:D

Try living in the UK mate :(

Oh yeah, I have no doubt about that! I really just want to start with a simple handgun for home defense; still trying to get my GF onboard with that one. But I'm almost at the point where I'm going to say "screw it" and get one anyway. And eventually, I'd like to get into hunting.

On a side note, I've been leaning towards a revolver for the house.... That or a G19 or something.

Tell her you want it for:

1. Self Defense - Cops only show up after the crime has happened
2. Survival - When SHTF, I want to be able to protect my family

You can achieve both SD and hunting with a revolver that shoots multiple calibers. For example, check out Ban's post about his S&W 610: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...es-Guns-and-Gear-in-use?p=9098464#post9098464

This 610 can shoot 40sw, 10mm, and 10mm Magnum

Believe me, I've been trying to persuade her for a while now.... It's an emotional response thing, logical arguments don't work.

If you get a 1911, don't skimp. They really are works of art and cheap Philipino guns are pretty rough inside with cast frames and some oddball parts that don't interchange with mil-spec parts.

On a similar topic, tonight June 29, 2011 is the Sunnyvale FFL study public comment meeting.

If you want to support your gun rights and FFLs operating in Sunnyvale, tonight is the night to do it.

The meeting starts at 6:30 in the City Council chambers but people will be organizing on sight at about 6:00. After the meeting, we will gather at a local restaurant for a late supper and talk about guns and gun rights.

It will be a good time and you will see a little about how local governments work.

When the study is complete we will probably have a few more meetings to go to also.

The gun laws in CA already suck. I feel bad for you folks in the UK and Canada in terms of gun ownership. Free healthcare is pretty darn good though. But ultimately, my personal freedom is most important.
