Death Chat!!

Dang, I want both as well. I'm liking the spike hawk...I had been eyeing the trench hawk, but might go with the spike hawk instead.

Haven't handled the trench hawk, but personally I like their models with separate head and handles. The video I posted in the previous page explains it all. If the original wooden handle breaks, you can always make a new one, and with the head removed, it becomes a pretty great multi-purpose tool.

The spike hawk is definitely cool, but I wanted to order the trail hawk first since it's more versatile. The spike hawk is definitely on my short to-get list.

Yeah, I know. IAWoodsman video was what convinced me a while ago to put the trail hawk on my list. I think ultimately I will still prefer a hatchet or small axe over a hawk for woods use, but I still look forward to trying one out.

Ive wanted a hawk for awhile, that cold steel comes at a good price. Couple makers on BF make them and sell them here but of course a little bit pricier. Beat those things up and tell us how they hold up.

I would pick up a Cold Steel hawk if I didn't already own a few from various companies. I have a K5 Tactical in my trunk for emergency demolition work. I would never carry it around because it probably weights 5lbs. I have G41 Ambassador or something like that from Hays Montana. Not sure if they are even still around. The G41 has a 01 head and delrin handle making it much lighter. I probably should go pull it out from storage just to check on it. A Gransfor Mini hatchet was my hiking buddy for some time. I too prefer a hatchet for utility and outdoors type work. I would love to be able to forge my own 3V hatchet head one of these days.

yo guys.. whats up.. we've been crazy busy over here lately.. looking forward to things getting back to normal.. i think we're heading out to the eastern sierra's next thursday too..:D

those CS trail hawks are way cool and definitely worth the $$$.. i have had one for about 5-6 years now.. i love it.. i have been meaning to strip the paint and add a aged patina look to it.. i also own 4-5 custom hawks as well 2 spike hawks, 2 belt/bag axes and an old school looking trade axe...:)

Whats up Mike? How all is well with you and the family. We should bring out all the hawks, hatchets, and axes on the next meetup.

I was hoping you'd say that. You already know this, but frogfish does a lot of forging, can't remember if he makes axe/hatchet/hawk heads too though. Don't recall seeing them in his shop when I was there but it has been a while.

Have fun in the Sierras! Yeah, bring out the hawks next time.

I had a 4 X 3X 8-1/2" chunk of S7 set aside for some hatchets and some dumb fu*k at work cut it up thinking it was regular steel. I am sure he saw the steam coming off my head after I found out.

I've looked at the CS hawks for a while. I didn't realize they were so cheap.

I'd be steaming too!

Yup, I have a CS Spike Hawk in my cart...haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

Have fun mike! Good to "see" ya man.

I'm going to pick up a Trail Hawk now, all this talk about it has bumped it up my list :D

Would love to see a BanTang Hawk head

hahah, the forums a dangerous place isn't it? my trail hawk hasn't even shipped and i'm already on the edge of pulling the trigger for the spike hawk.

thinking the trail hawk will go in my car kit and spike hawk into my zombie kit, haha.

I still need to order a SAK, either the Farmer or Pioneer Harvester but waiting for Amazon to have that deal for ~$15 again.

yo guys.. all is well over here.. we/I have been crazy busy with the theatre program that my boys do.. the shows are awesone, they're all rock n roll musicals..
i have done a ton of set painting for them over the past 4, now 5, summers that we have been involved with it.. it is an amazing program and is the true definition of "community".. all the parents and other volunteers, pull it all together..:)

this years production is Pinnochio, i had huge hand in designing a lot of the set, primarily the whole back mural.. it was really cool, but also very tiring.. i gave them(the directors) 4 sketches and they ended up choosing 1.. i then had to sketch it on the back wall, which is 16 ft. high and 30 ft across... it was a lot of fun.. the shws started last thursday and run through sunday.. and then started up again this wed. and wrapping it all up on sunday...

i am down to kick it anytime after sunday.. i think we leave for Mammoth next thursday if all goes as planned.. i will bring some hawks too..:D

mike, i remember all the previous years when you helped, but this year sounds even busier! sounds like good times though!

gimmie, haha, do it!

i broke down, just ordered a CS spike hawk, haha. Now I have a trail hawk and spike hawk on the way! Thankfully they're relatively inexpensive.

Can't wait to get them and start modding!

I ordered the spike hawk after the trail hawk but it looks like the spike hawk is coming in first today! I'll post pictures with mods as I get around to it.
